Make a holiday cottage in Whitstable your home away from home

Whitstable is a beautiful seaside town set in Kent on England’s southeast coast, not too far from London. Its great seaside location puts a variety of activities and attractions right at the doorstep of Whitstable holiday homes, including opportunities for watersports, cultural pursuits and historical sites. Holidaymakers of all ages and interests are certain to find something to excite them during their time away, yet despite its popularity, the town’s laid-back atmosphere and old-world charm of its Whitstable holiday cottages remains unchanged. If ideas of relaxation surround a quaint little cottage a mere hop, skip and a jump from one of the most spectacular coastlines in the UK, then a Whitstable holiday cottage may just be the perfect getaway.

Things to do in Whitstable

-Outdoor activities: Windsurfing is a great way to spend any getaway in Whitstable, as the region boasts both shallow water and constant wind, which make it especially suited to beginners. The town’s surf school even offers lessons and equipment rental, which means that holidaymakers don’t need to worry about anything except the relatively easy task of finding the perfect Whitstable holiday cottage.

-History: Whitstable Castle is a beautifully restored 18th-century residence, located between Whitstable and Tankerton. The building’s fortress-like façade and beautifully maintained gardens are a definite must-see if holidaying in the region, although tourists need to call and organise a visit in advance. If lucky, visitors may even catch one of the great plays, dinners, activities or other events regularly held in the castle.

-Beaches: Going to the beach in and around Whitstable is an absolute treat, with a multitude of great pebbly beaches on offer including West Beach, Cushing’s View, the Harbour and Tankerton Slopes. The best thing about all of these locations, however, is that they’re within easy walking distance of most Whitstable holiday cottages, meaning that guests can spend as much time exploring these magical seaside locations as they wish.

-Events: Whitstable Oyster Festival, which showcases the region’s spectacular Flat and Rock Oysters every July, has been a fixture in the town since the 1980s. The event currently draws travellers from all over the world, with the 2013 celebration even having enticed the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall. If interested in partaking in this treat for the tastebuds however, holidaymakers should make sure to organise Whitstable holiday accommodation well in advance in order to avoid disappointment.

-Attractions: Shivering Sands and Redsands Maunsell Sea Forts are two clusters of fascinating WWII anti-aircraft structures, which lie just off the Whitstable coast. While the massive metal towers can be seen from the shoreline in some places (as a speck on the horizon), avid history buffs should definitely make the most of their time in Whitstable, organising a boat trip out to the forts to examine them up close.

Weather in Whitstable

Whitstable experiences warm summers and mild, damp winters, which makes the summer months the best time to visit. Travellers looking for a winter getaway however, should not discount a Whitstable holiday home: the sunsets and coastal views during the cooler months can be absolutely spectacular.

Travel to Whitstable

Whitstable’s proximity to London makes it a relatively easy holiday destination to get to, with numerous transport options available for travellers, including the train, the bus, a hire car, or self-drive. One of the best things about Whitstable however, is the fact that an hour or so spent in the car, train or bus is able to transport tourists far from the bustle of everyday London.

We have just spent three nights in a beautiful apartment called "Bayside" in Tankerton just outside Whitstable Kent. The owner had obviously gone to a lot of trouble to present the accomadation as it was very stylish, and well equipped. It was situated just yards away from the pebbled, quiet beach, with a bus stop just outside to Herne Bay, one way,or Whitstable the other. We like walkiing so we always walked as it is an easy 15minutes stroll into the town, but everything is on your doorstep if you wish to eat, drink or shop for food. For example, A Tesco Extra, ATM, fish and chips, Indian, Chinese, Italian, The Tankerton Arms, or The Royal public house. You are spoilt for choice. We loved every minute of our stay, and will be visiting again next year but will need to stay longer to appreciate everything on offer. Mr and Mrs Coxall 26th July to 29th July 2016

Great property, very clean and well equipped. Fantastic location, very convenient for shops, railway station, harbour and restaurants. Really loved the kitchen, large, airy and comfortable, and we were spoiled to have a TV in nearly every room!. Garden very private and got the sun nearly all day - we sat outside a lot as we were lucky with the weather. :-) Communication with Sara was very good, everything was as described and looked better than the photos. Thanks Sara for a great stay, I'm sure we'll be back!

Adorable, spacious, very well-equipped cottage with a beautiful view of the sea. Super convenient to amenities in the centre. Whitstable is a beautiful little town - funky little cafes and boutiques, excellent restaurants and pubs, vibrant harbourside. Convenient to Canterbury (we took the Triangle bus there; ~20 min journey). The owner, Jake, was very responsive to all of our queries and is such a nice guy. Would rent this cottage again in a heartbeat.
