A great and comfortable week!

5 of 5
We spent a very comfortable and enjoyable week staying at this house in early September 2017. It is in a very quiet location but with quick and easy access to both Weymouth and Dorchester. It is also very well stocked and provided us with everything we needed. The WIFI is fast and reliable. We also appreciated having two dedicated car parking spaces. Steve and Ella, the owners, were quick to respond to any queries we had and made themselves available to us if anything went wrong. Fortunately, it never did. We were inspired to visit Weymouth by reading the novel “Weymouth Sands” by John Cowper Powys and the area didn’t disappoint at all. Weymouth itself has two RSPB bird reserves and then there is Portland Bill, Chesil Beach and the Dorset Ridgeway to explore. A great and comfortable week!

Property: 'Top to Bottom', Reforn, Easton, Portland, Dorset.

5 of 5
Clean, modern, well equipped, excellent state of decoration / maintenance. Centrally placed and although no dedicated parking, on-street parking always available within a few meters of the property (during both our stays at "Top to Bottom"). Portland is a fascinating place with plenty of places to visit (Portland Museum, Grove Prison Museum (unexpectedly interesting and informative), Portland Castle, D-Day Experience, Lighthouse, Bird Observatory, The Verne (and Jail House Cafe), Coastal path around Portland inc that part along the railways bed; Tout Quarry Sculpture Park, Decommissioned Church at end of reform - superb guides tell you a lot about the social history of Portland, Pressgang Riots, blind child buried facing east etc etc - fascinating stuff. No need to leave Portland during a week or more's stay. Excellent natural history all around - entomology as well as ornithology and geology (doubtless botany too). 'Top to Bottom' well placed just off Easton Square. "Sugar Loaf" cafe opposite the property is excellent vale and provides a good choice of unpretentious home cooking and a warm welcome. Co-op store, "Martins" the newsagent/Post Office and "Boots" between them supply all holiday needs (the butcher's deli opposite has dressed crab fresh in every Wednesday). Some restaurants are on the pretentious side - "New Inn" for example - poor choice of beers, limited menu (only one choice if you are vegetarian!), arty-farty presentation of the food which never to my liking (I judge a meal by the quality of the ingredients, not the edible flowers in the garnish or blobs a pea-reduction smeared on the plate; I left thinking "hmm, another one of those places where I could have cooked a far better meal" My wife requested no salt on her chips, but her meal arrived without the salad! Table next to us - one of two persons was served wrong main course (there were only 9 customers at the time, getting 2 out of 9 wrong when not busy is not a good sign). "Pulpit Inn" Portland Bill, restaurant is very much "take it or leave it" probably because there is no passing trade. Meals OK but on the pricey side and service - as in many UK restaurants - rather slap-dash. "Quibbles Cafe" at Chesil Cove is excellent, good attentive service and value for money - their fresh crab sandwich is VERY well filled; cream tea very generous and they are licences now! Portland is a wonderful place with friendly people. We'll be back.
