Make a holiday cottage in West Somerset your home away from home

With miles of coastline, moorland, and a number of charming villages and hamlets, West Somerset has a lot to offer visitors who are willing to go off the beaten track. This beautiful part of the country rewards holidaymakers with spectacular scenery and the opportunity to partake in numerous outdoor activities. There are also plenty of activities in the region to keep children entertained, making West Somerset a great family holiday destination.

HomeAway has a wide selection of holiday cottages in West Somerset available. Popular choices include holiday homes in Minehead and the tiny town of Dulverton, which is nestled in Exmoor National Park. Prices for West Somerset holiday cottages start from just £250 per week for cosy accommodation, and ascend to nearly £800 per week for luxury rentals. All holiday homes come fully furnished with everything visitors need to feel right at home. Most have one to three bedrooms, with many offering additional amenities like easy beach access and accommodation for pets.

Things to do

-Beaches: Traditional seaside fun can be had at Minehead. The coastal town features a wide promenade and a flat sandy beach with views of Exmoor National Park and the coast of Wales. Visitors in holiday homes in Watchet will find another beach town, featuring a mix of sand and pebbles, but lovely to look at. It is also popular for fossil hunting.

-Outdoor activities: With the splendour of Exmoor National Park at the doorstep of many holiday cottages in West Somerset, visitors would be remiss not to visit. The extensive park is filled with beautiful moorland, undulating terrain, streams and rivers, and lots of wildlife. Plenty of public paths make it easy to explore on foot, bicycle, or even on a horse. The park is also a popular destination for canoeing, fishing, and stargazing.

-Family attractions: Butlins in Minehead has an enormous waterpark as well as several play areas for children to enjoy. Families can also take a ride on the West Somerset Railway from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard. The 20-mile steam train journey passes through some wonderful scenery. Within Exmoor National Park itself, the Exmoor Falconry and Animal Park is guaranteed to be a hit with kids. Another great option is a visit to Dunster Castle, located on the border of the national park.

-Golf: Golfers of all ability levels are welcome to play the challenging course at the Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club. Founded in 1882, it is one of the oldest golf clubs in the country. The 18-hole course spans nearly 6,200 yards and is a par 72. Open year-round to visitors, the course features beautiful greens, tricky sea breezes, and lovely views of the coastline.

A peaceful little jewel in Dunster

5 of 5
We loved our recent stay at Floral cottage in Dunster, its owners Janet and Keith could not have been more helpful and kind. The cottage is a little jewel, beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean, we took our shoes off to enjoy the underfloor heating. Plenty of hot water and lovely and cosy, it is small but perfect.

Perfect property... will definitely be back sometime soon

5 of 5
I recently booked Little Burston for a long weekend for my wife's 30th birthday surprise and it went down a treat! The property is spacious, smart and clean and perfect for two couples or a family, with plenty of outside space for games and a trampoline. Nearby there is lots to do and some great pubs and restaurants to visit. To top it off there was homemade scones on arrival and the super friendly black lab Sirius who came to say hello each day! Highly recommended.
