Things to do in Watchet

Watchet has a number of interesting historical and cultural sites to visit, plenty to keep the kids entertained, and is in close proximity to beautiful Exmoor National Park.

It’s a fascinating trip through time and visitors of all ages will enjoy the exhibits of everything made from Bakelite which include vintage cameras, radios, telephones and even a coffin.

Nature lovers will be in awe of the rolling area that was occupied as far back as the Iron Age. There are plenty of walks and nature adventures to be had, and it is home to lots of wildlife and beautiful flora and fauna. Great care is being taken to conserve the area and keep it as majestic for generations after us to enjoy.

-The Market House Museum is a popular tourist attraction. Even though it is extremely small, it is literally jam-packed with exhibits, photos, stories and artefacts showcasing Watchet’s colourful history. There are fossils and artefacts from the stone and iron age and the place is well worth a visit.

-Doniford Farm is a must if you chosen holiday accommodation in Watchet. Meet Mr Snood the friendly turkey, who would like a cuddle before anyone else, chill out with the farm animals and enjoy a great lunch in the café afterwards. It’s a super fun family outing and even your hardest customers – the sullen teenager – will have a smile on their face when they leave.

-The West Somerset Railway is a hugely popular tourist attraction. What better way to explore the countryside or even take a trip up to the Dunster Castle, than on a vintage steam train ride? There’s lots of fun events and festivities on every weekend at the railway.

A perfect base to explore Exmoor

4 of 5
We would recommend this dog friendly house. The garden is quite small but sunny and secure. It's sufficient with all the dog walking options in the area. The house was beautifully presently, very clean, with comfortable beds and sofas. We felt at home straight away. The location is quiet and close to lovely villages and Exmoor. We saw Exmoor ponies with foals on the road on the way home one night. In Dulverton 4miles away we had a nice lunch at The Copper Kettle and a good evening meal at The Bridge pub. We had a nice afternoon at an Alpaca walking centre Woolley Animals. Elaine was very helpful and quick to communicate. We've only held back from 5* as the kitchen is small but it was fine as just 2 of us. It would be nice if the showers upstairs were pumped rather then off the bath but the plumbing may not allow for this. Minor points amongst many positives. We hope to stay again and explore further north in Exmoor.
