Make a holiday cottage in Washford your home away from home

Located just a few miles from the coast, Washford is a small and peaceful village along the tranquil Washford River, ideal for a family holiday or romantic getaway. Surrounding the village is the beauty of Exmoor National Park, a number of museums and historical sites, and a delightful stretch of coastline. Washford is an excellent base for touring this very special part of south west England. There are some amenities in the village including shops and a post office, but some of the major towns of Somerset are very close by. HomeAway features a good selection of holiday cottages in Washford to suit a wide range of needs and budgets.

Holiday cottages in Washford offer excellent value for money. A one-bedroom apartment can start from just £240 per week. All cottages sleep at least four individuals, with some accommodating up to 12, making them perfect for a family or group getaway. Along with the many amenities Washford holiday cottages provide, most are also pet friendly and welcome children. Several offer high-speed internet access, easy beach access, and a pool. Holiday cottages in Minehead feature similar options, amenities and pricing nearby.

Things to do

-Beaches: The coast is just two miles from Washford, and well within walking distance from many Washford holiday cottages. The closest beach to Washford can be found in Watchet, a neighbouring village. The beach at Watchet is mainly comprised of pebbles, but still makes for a good stroll. Minehead, which is a little further afoot, offers a much sandier beach that is ideal for walking and sightseeing.

-Outdoor activities: With Exmoor National Park just a short drive away, there are a wealth of outdoor activities to partake in. Walking is the most popular activity in the park, and there are countless guided trails to explore. Mountain biking, horse riding, and climbing round out the list of popular activities within the varied terrains of the national park.

-Museums: Watchet, which is less than two miles from holiday cottages in Washford, is home to the Market Watch museum. It is the village’s top attraction and offers a fascinating glimpse into the history of the region. Likewise, Washford itself lays claim to the Somerset and Dorset Railway Museum. Both museums have a strong focus on local history and appeal to children and adults alike.

-Historic monuments: Though Washford is a beautiful and historic village in its own right, nearby Dunster offers more to visitors in terms of historic sites. Located on the edge of Exmoor National Park, the stunning Dunster Castle is the area’s main attraction and is an impressive sight to behold, while the Dunster Yarn Market and Dunster Church of St. George also attract many visitors throughout the year. There are holiday cottages in Dunster if tourists would like an alternative to Washford.

Weather in Washford

Washford enjoys mild weather across the seasons. Most visitors prefer to rent holiday homes in Washford in the summer, when high temperatures reach the low-20s. The region is warmest from June to September, and cools as autumn turns to winter. Winters in Washford are chilly, but temperatures in the area rarely fall below zero. Rainfall is pretty steady throughout the year, but is heavier between October and December.

Travel to Washford

Because Washford does not have a rail station, the easiest way to reach the village is by car. From the M5, drivers should exit to the A39, which runs right through Washford. Buses also serve the area, but they do not run on a frequent basis. Holidaymakers without a car may want to consider hiring one in Bristol, which is about an 80-minute drive from Washford.

Excellent Stay

5 of 5
The house was very spacious, clean and had every facility that we could possibly need. The large garden was superb for the children and dog and the swimming pool excellent but very cold. The property is very private and we used the outdoor eating facilities a lot.

Wow, what an amazing holiday house!

Fantastic house that is beautifully furnished and very well equipped for a party of 4 adults and 4 children. Lovely location in porlock and nice to be able to walk to the local pubs and shops too. Would definitely recommend a stay at this amazing house.
