Surrounded by golf courses and less than 30 minutes away from the attractions of Exmoor National Park, it naturally attracts visitors to enjoy outdoor activities. There are also several great places to take children in the area, including fascinating museums, beautiful gardens, and an open-air pool.

HomeAway has a good selection of holiday cottages in Taunton for visitors to choose from. Rentals start at less than £250 per week for budget accommodation and go all the way up to £8,000 per week for sprawling estates. They generally range from one- to three-bedroomed properties and all come fully furnished. Some of the more popular amenities offered by holiday cottages in Taunton include swimming pools, BBQ equipment, and internet access.

Things to do

-Golf: There are three golf clubs either within Taunton or on the outskirts of Taunton. The closest is Vivary Park Golf Course, which is a five-minute walk from the centre of town. There is a flat 18-hole parkland course here that is casual and well suited for beginners. Taunton Vale Golf Club is a little further from the centre of town and offers two courses. The 18-hole course will challenge even the most experienced golfer, whilst the 9-hole course is an excellent place to practice. Founded in 1892, the Taunton & Pickeridge Golf Club is the oldest club in the region and has a beautiful 18-hole course featuring varied terrain. It is popular throughout the region, particularly with people staying in holiday homes in Exeter and its surrounds.

-Food and drink: Taunton has a number of excellent pubs and restaurants. The Willow Tree and the Royal Oak are two of the most highly rated pubs in town and will not disappoint. In addition, Sheppy's Farm & Cider Centre just outside of Taunton is an excellent place to sample locally made cider – and the family-friendly farm has a nice gift shop and museum, too.

-Family attractions: The Museum of Somerset is within easy reach of families staying in a Taunton holiday cottage. This fascinating attraction has everything from dinosaur bones to ancient Roman coins that have all been uncovered in Somerset. Hestercombe Gardens is another great place to take kids. It boasts 50 acres of land encompassing lakes, woodland areas, and plenty of trails to explore. In the summer months, families can head to the Wiveliscombe Open-Air Pool.

-Outdoor activities: Somerset is a beautiful part of the country with numerous country roads and public paths for outdoor lovers to explore. Those staying in a Taunton holiday barn can also make the short drive to Exmoor National Park. The park is full of stunning moorland and is a good place for walking, cycling, horse riding, and wildlife watching.
