Make holiday farmhouses or a holiday cottage in Suffolk your home away from home

Suffolk is a beautiful and highly attractive county in the south east corner of England. The flat countryside of East Anglia is dotted with charming rural villages, ancient market towns and picturesque swathes of woodland, which has made holiday cottages in Suffolk the haunt of painters, writers and those who simply want to get away from it all and enjoy the tranquillity of some of England’s most beautiful countryside. Whether you wish to take a stunning walking holiday, a quiet tour of Suffolk’s towns or are simply hoping to test your skills on a range of Suffolk golf courses, there is a cosy Suffolk holiday cottage just waiting to be discovered.

Things to do on holiday in Suffolk

Suffolk holiday cottages are a perfect base for walking, cycling and riding holidays. The flat, open countryside is ideal for walking and riding, with an expansive maze of footpaths, cycle routes and bridleways covering the whole area. Whether you are hoping to take a short, circular walk after lunch or head out into the country for a long hike or trek, you will have no problem finding a suitable circuit from self catering accommodation in Suffolk. The Angles Way and the paths of the Waveney Valley are fantastic places to start your exploration of the countryside from a Suffolk holiday cottage. There are also plenty of charming, rustic Suffolk public houses in which to get refreshed after a long day’s exercise.

There are a huge range of tourist attractions throughout Suffolk. There are important monuments ranging from the ancient, Anglo-Saxon burial site at Sutton Hoo to the 12th Century Framlingham Castle, and from Bawdsey Radar Station to the Norfolk and Suffolk Aviation Museum in Flixton.

The Suffolk Coast is a huge draw to self catering holiday accommodation in Suffolk. There are over 40 miles of Heritage Coast in Suffolk, plenty of charming seaside resorts and numerous sandy beaches on which to sunbathe, build sandcastles and swim. The Suffolk coast is also one of the most natural, with plenty of rare British wildlife seen in the area with reassuring regularity.

Each year, Suffolk hosts a huge range of festivals, events and shows. Suffolk’s yearly calendar is filled to bursting point with events, including the Aldeburgh Music Easter Festival in March, the Felixstowe Historic Vehicle Rally in May, the famous Suffolk Show, also in May, the Ipswich Arts Festival in June, the East of England Tennis Tournament in July and the British Open Crabbing Championships in August. The golf courses in Suffolk are particularly fun to play, as the terrain is wonderfully flat, interrupted only by water hazards and deep rough.

Places to visit on holiday in Suffolk

Minsmere has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, from its position of the Suffolk coast. Anyone with a love for nature or an interest in birds should defiantly make the trip from their self catering Suffolk accommodation to Minsmere, which is also the RSPB’s best nature reserve, with walking trails reaching through some of the most unspoilt habitats left in the region.

While visiting Suffolk, make a detour and rent Norfolk cottages.

Perfect place to stay!

5 of 5
Redferns is a beautiful property. It is just as fresh and clean as the pictures suggest. And equally comfortable. My family of 4 (me, my husband, and 2 kids ages 11 and 9) felt quite at home and appreciated all the modern conveniences. We enjoyed the tv and wifi as well as the old-school games and puzzles that had us sharing time as a family without the internet! The location was great, close to family we were visiting, and an easy drive to all the places we wanted to see. Amanda is warm and welcoming and quick to respond to questions. We couldn't have asked for more! Definitely recommend to anyone looking for a place to stay in this area!

Beautiful courtyard garden & interior spaces

5 of 5
Very thoughtfully presented, beautiful outside and inside spaces. Hosting by Deborah equally thoughtful, warm & relaxed. Private, quiet location in lovely countryside. I felt very comfortable throughout my stay, and am very glad I booked this 'home away' for myself, a real treat!
