Make a holiday cottage in St. Austell your home away from home

Tucked away in the Cornish countryside behind a crescent-shaped bay lies St. Austell. As one of the largest towns in Cornwall, St. Austell naturally attracts tourists from all corners of the UK and beyond. In addition to its wealth of convenient amenities and holiday accommodation, the town is within striking distance of beautiful beaches, golf courses, and the Eden Project, Cornwall’s most visited attraction. In light of everything St. Austell has to offer, its accommodation rivals that of surf haven Newquay as one of the top holiday destinations in Cornwall.

HomeAway has an impressive selection of holiday cottages in St. Austell that are well suited for a couple’s retreat, family or group holiday. Most apartments have two to three bedrooms and can accommodate up to six guests at a time. Many are located within a short distance of the coast, whilst others offer convenient amenities such as Wi-Fi, satellite television, and a pool. St. Austell holiday homes offer that perfect combination of accommodation in a well-facilitated, urban setting with immediate access to glorious countryside and coasts.

Things to do

-Golf: Guests staying in St. Austell holiday apartments are spoilt for choice when it comes to golf courses. With modest green fees and a beautiful 18-hole inland course, St. Austell Golf Club is a good option. Along the coastline, Carlyon Bay Golf Club provides a little bit more of a challenge for keen golfers and is just three miles from the centre of St. Austell. Also in the area is Porthpean Golf Club. The 18-hole course at Porthpean is perched above St. Austell Bay and offers pay-as-you-go green fees.

-Beach: There are four major beaches within reach of holiday accommodation in St. Austell. Pentewan Beach in the popular village of the same name is a popular destination for swimming, surfing, windsurfing and canoeing. Watersports fans might consider holiday cottages in Pentewan, to be closer to the action. Porthpean Beach, which lies adjacent to Porthpean Golf Club, is well suited for families thanks to its calm waves and broad strip of sand. Holidaymakers with dogs will want to visit Par Sands Beach, which welcomes dogs year-round.

-Family activities: The Eden Project is without a doubt the best family attraction in this part of Cornwall. The eco-friendly destination is less than five miles from St. Austell and consists of several bio-domes, including one that contains the largest rainforest in captivity. The Eden Project also hosts a number of notable events throughout the year that the whole family can enjoy.

The 630-mile pathway is full of amazing scenery, historic sites, and opportunities for wildlife watching. Within St. Austell itself is the St. Austell Circular path, which is an easy route that takes visitors through the China Clay Museum as well as the St. Austell Brewery.

Fabulous stay!

5 of 5
My family and I stayed at Penpraze for 7 nights from 23.12.16. We had a fantastic stay and cannot recommend this property highly enough! My family (3 adults, 2 children) flew from Australia to spend their first Christmas with my partner and I in the UK. We had decided to stay in Cornwall and wanted to find a property with a traditional feel, in the countryside but close to all of Cornwall's sites. On arrival we were over awed by the effort David had put in to dress the house for this special occasion. Not only was there a beautifully decorated Xmas tree; throughout the house little touches were included to make the whole space feel festive and inviting. We thought the photos on the Owners Direct website looked great but what we found far surpassed the pictures! On entry there is a large kitchen/ dining area with Aga plus conventional oven (which was a welcome relief as we are not experienced Aga users and had a large turkey to cook!). On from the kitchen there is a small but lovely conservatory, opening on to the beautiful garden, equipped with a play area for kids. The main lounge/ living space is very large and bookended by open fireplaces. Ample and comfortable sofas and armchairs, plus a dining table. We used one fireplace which warmed the whole house and provided a cosy atmosphere. To the left of the lounge is a small single bedroom, which was perfect for my mother. Upstairs a large double bedroom and bathroom (with shower, tub and wc) and another large room with 2 single beds- perfect for a family with small children needing to sleep close by. Adjacent to the kitchen is another wing, which includes a games room (with pool table and dart board) and a large bedroom with 2 single beds. A shower room with wc, plus utility room (washing machine, dryer, freezer and ironing facilities) is also located here. Upstairs is a large double bedroom with wardrobe and great views. We found the layout of the house perfect for a large group of people staying together but still needing their own space. The house is perfectly located next to a farm; it was great waking up to cows in the morning! The housekeeper (Anne) could not have been more helpful, giving advice about rubbish collection and selling firewood at much cheaper rates than in town. We took a number of day trips and realised Penpraze is ideally located to travel to anywhere in Cornwall. Thank you Dave for a wonderful stay- we will be back!

Fabulous in every way

5 of 5
We have just returned from a 4 day break at Harbour lights. This property is simply stunning. It took our breath away- the location, tranquility, calm, everything has been thought of and the owners should be very proud. The finish of the property is quality and it is so wonderful that it is dog friendly. The hot tub is an absolute bonus as is the bath at the foot of the bed overlooking the sea which is quite beautiful. Its a true escape sitting under the stars at night in a gorgeous part of Cornwall. We absolutely LOVE this place and will be back very soon.

Cosy, comfortable cottage in great location

This is a lovely cottage, cosy, warm, spotlessly clean with everything you need for a comfortable stay - a real home away from home. Perfect location as well, with good pub food, coastal walks and the harbour on your doorstep.
