We have just returned from a fantastic Break at Dormie House in Silloth. Bev met us and gave all the essential information and left some doughnuts and a pint of milk. The property is in close walking proximity to the town and promenade, has on street parking and is only a few minutes walk to the beach across the golf course which our dog loved. The house has mostly everything you will need for a great self-catering holiday and I would not hesitate in recommending it to future guests. The house is on a road with the main bedroom to the front so there is some road noise if you are a light sleeper, but it did not bother us and there is always the back bedroom which could be used instead. The only minor points for us were that we found the beds too firm (orthopaedic beds) and the settees not comfortable to sit on for long.
West cottage is in a beautiful location, with fantastic views over the Solway Coast. The cottage is a good size, very clean with all the amenities needed for a good stay; though it's a little dated and in need of a little TLC it is comfortable. It has a nice enclosed well maintained garden. A gardener came mid week cutting the grass, but unfortunately didn't collect the grass when finished and seeing there is no real foot path, ended up with grass cuttings through out the house. This was very inconvenient. Also the gardener left the heavy plant pots in front of the door. Which would of been a hazard had we tripped over them and pretty inconvenient to have to move.
On arrival we met the owner who explained the shower head holder was damaged and would be repaired the following day. That never happened. So it was inconvenient having to hold the shower head while showering
There is no Wi-Fi in the cottage and a very poor mobile signal. Which is very frustrating, there is a signal at the local pub so it's a good excuse to go to the pub, but this wasn't what we really wanted to do daily.
They seem like little things but I don't come on holiday for inconvenience and daily visits to a pub to get enough of a signal to plan days out and get access to maps and timetables.
Would I return? Yes nice cottage, good location with great views
