It is next to the Devon Expressway, thirty-two miles from Exeter, eighteen from Plymouth and five from Ivybridge. It was once known for its woollen industry, market centre and the two fairs held annually. However since being moved into the boundaries of the Dartmoor National Park, the communities thrives and has public houses, shops, community centre and village hall. The panoramic view from Brent Hill is one of the most impressive in the South West. Although there are a few hotels and guesthouses in the surrounding areas, it is the once farm cottages and barn conversions that are the most popular type of holiday accommodation in South Brent.

Self-catering holiday cottages have all mod cons and home comforts, a great deal more space than a hotel room, some permit dogs and they allow you the freedom to explore the high moorlands with their many barrows, enclosures and hut circles dating back to the Bronze Age. The South West Lakes Trust provides first-rate facilities for angling, sailing and exploring the footpaths, such as the half-mile walk to Shipley Bridge.

Cottage holidays in South Brent are in close proximity to one of the small number of real wildernesses left in England that of Dartmoor National Park. However, its not wise to leave your cottage without a map, compass, knowing what the weather forecast and a raincoat, as Dartmoor is notorious for its mists.

The doorway is now boarded up but is still visible.

Ideal Base

5 of 5
We stayed whilst attending a family wedding nearby. The cottage was an ideal base, and a haven of peace away from the wedding venue! The cottage is well equipped and comfortable and, although potentially difficult, we never had a problem with parking in the narrow roads. We definitely aim to return in due course and make more of its lovely location.
