Make a holiday cottage in Slapton Sands your home away from home

Slapton is a small coastal village situated a short distance south west of the larger holiday towns of Dartmouth and Brixham. One of the main draws of Slapton for holidaymakers is definitely the stunning Slapton Sands Beach, which is comprised of a lovely pebbly coastline that backs onto a nature reserve. Slapton Sands holiday cottages are consequently a great getaway location for families or couples looking for a quiet beachside destination, which also affords them the opportunity to get back to nature.

Slapton Sands holiday cottages are also a little more exclusive and private than holiday homes in Dartmouth, although travellers should not expect to have to pay more, with accommodation starting from just £273 per week. Facilities such as fireplaces, large gardens, and the fact that visitors are generally more than welcome to bring their four-legged family members along, also makes Slapton Sands an extremely welcoming getaway location.

-Beaches: One of the biggest draws around Slapton is definitely Slapton Sands Beach, owing to the stunning scenery and opportunity to undertake a variety of different watersports such as swimming, windsurfing and sea kayaking. The best thing about Slapton Sands Beach though, is that it’s extremely close to most Slapton Sands holiday cottages and offers a lifeguard service. Adventurous beachgoers, however, may like to undertake the ten-kilometre trip north to the infamous Strete Sands, which acts as the region's unofficial nudist beach!

-Woodlands Leisure Park: Holidaymakers looking for a great family day out need look no further than the Woodlands Leisure Park, which is located roughly eight kilometres from Slapton Sands holiday homes. The park contains a zoo and falconry, in addition to multiple theme park rides for all ages, which are guaranteed to provide fun and entertainment for the whole family.

-Historical sites: Slapton Sands is well known to most history enthusiasts, owing to the fact that it was the scene of the wartime disaster “Operation Tiger”: German torpedo boats interrupted an Allied training exercise, killing hundreds of American soldiers. The WW2 monument and tank is located within walking distance of most Slapton Sands holiday cottages.

-Walking: Travellers who enjoy hiking are spoiled for choice in Slapton Sands, as numerous fantastic walking trails wind through the countryside. A fantastic example of one such path is the relaxing coastal walk from Slapton to Beesands, which offers amazing ocean views and great bird watching opportunities. Walkers who prefer locations with more amenities but still close to the best trails and scenery could opt for holiday homes in Brixham rather than Slapton Sands.

-Slapton Ley: Slapton Ley is a beautiful freshwater nature reserve located within walking distance of most Slapton Sands holiday homes. Here holidaymakers have the opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the region’s most amazing wildlife, including badgers, otters and bats, not to mention the magnitude of birdlife at certain times of the year. Botany enthusiasts shouldn't feel left out however, as the reserve also plays host to rare and wonderful fungi and lichen.

Slapton Sands experiences perfect beach weather during the summer months, although as with the rest of the United Kingdom, a few days of rain here and there are always a possibility. Holidaymakers considering a Slapton Sands holiday cottage however, are guaranteed to find the area absolutely stunning regardless of when they choose to visit.

Travel to Slapton Sands

Slapton Sands is located just off the A379 southwest of Dartmouth and is best reached by car. Holidaymakers hoping to leave their vehicle at home however, also have the option of taking the bus or a taxi from one of the larger settlements nearby, such as Kingsbridge or Dartmouth.
