Sennen is situated on the southwest tip of Cornwall close to Whitesand Bay. It has its own lifeboat station and lighthouse and is one mile northeast of Lands End. The cliffs at Pedn-men-du headland, a popular climbing location, shelter the cove at Sennen, which is popular with families and surfers in equal measure. At low tide the beach becomes one with Gwynver beach and the coastal path, availiable to walk at both high and low tide, offers some spectacular coastal views.

Renting self-catering accommodation or a cottage in Sennen is one of the best ways to watch birds without being restricted to the timescales demanded by guesthouses and hotels. St Just (Lands End) Airfield, which lies between Sennen and St Just, is a birdwatchers delight and is known for the rare waders such as the Buff-breasted Sandpiper and Dotteral which call the area home. It is best to view the field from the road that runs to Nanquido or the track to Brea Vean where there is a small pull in, as access to the airfield in prohibited.

There are many holiday cottages close to Sennen Cove harbour where a small fleet of pleasure and commercial fishing boats operate. The harbour is popular with diving groups especially at times when easterly winds make diving at Mount's Bay difficult. There are several stories (myths) about the cove, such as reports of mermaid, the Sennen Whooper and the Irish Lady. Penrose in the Penberth Valley was home of the seventeenth century smuggler and the farmhouse at Brea is mentioned in the Doomsday Book. The present church dates back to the thirteenth century but there has been a religious building on the land since the sixth century.

Many of the names of cottages in Sennen relate to the nature of the area with names like Mariners and Wayfarers, Longships Watch, Captains View and even the gallery housing sculpture, photography, pottery and paintings is called the Round House and Capstan Gallery.

Wow! This place is truly wonderful.

It's hard to find the words to tell travellers how good Mill House is. If we didn't go out for the week we'd still have had an amazing time. The house is beautiful. The interiors stunning. We were the first guests and yet the house has been so well considered there was absolutely nothing lacking. The absolute blow away moment has to be waking in the super comfortable master bed and having your first cup of tea in the lounger looking out across the ever changing sea to Cape Cornwall. West Cornwall is so good to visit in winter, but that's a secret I share reluctantly! I urge everyone who can afford to stay at Mill House to put it at the top of your list.

A wonderful Christmas in a wonderful cottage!

5 of 5
We had force 9 gales outside but all was warm and cosy in this beautiful thatched cottage which is so full of character. Granite fireplaces with roaring wood burners, low beamed rooms and comfy sofas, Rayburn stove and creaking floor boards with rugs all made for a wonderful holiday. The 2 living rooms worked well with children - the main one having the dining table in too which made meal times even more special. The location is equally special with wonderful views and easy access to both the beach/harbour/pub and the local shop. On a practical note, the cottage is very well equipped and everything worked, was clean and well presented. We'd love to come back sometime soon.
