Things to do

-A visit to the Bowhill House and Country Estate is a lovely way to spend a day in Selkirk. A guided tour takes visitors through the entire house where impressive collections of paintings, silverware, furniture, and porcelain are found. The estate has several marked walking paths, and the gift shop sells local crafts.

-The award-winning Halliwell's House Museum thoughtfully recreates the structure's original use as an ironmonger. The museum also serves as a historical museum for Selkirk. The Robson Gallery displays local art, crafts, and history exhibitions. There is a Visitor's Centre, an interactive children's area, as well as a shop selling books and souvenirs.

-Explore Sir Walter Scott's legacy and Selkirk's history at Sir Walter Scott’s Courtroom. Originally built as the Sheriff Court in 1803, this building is where the legendary Sir Walter Scott ruled as sheriff in Selkirkshire. The museum has an interesting exhibit on Scott's life, particularly his time as sheriff. The museum has a small gift shop and is handicap accessible.

-The Lochcarron Mill Visitor Centre and Coffee Shop is a highlight in Selkirk. Delicious coffee and homemade baked goods are available. The Scottish Visitor Centre displays Lochcarron's collection of wool knitwear, accessories, tartans, and tweeds. A tour of the wool mill is both informative and fun. Experienced guides lead visitors through every step of the process.

-From wonderful natural scenery and wildlife spotting, a trip to the Whitlaw Mosses is a good option. This nature reserve is filled with diverse plants and animals. Mosses and sedges along with beautiful flowering plants and willows cover the land. A nature lover's dream!

-The Old Gala House And Scott Gallery in Selkirkshire is a beautiful building with a centuries' old history. Visitors can discover the story of the Old Gala House and all of its former inhabitants. The museum's permanent collection showcases furniture, silverware, and clothing, and there is also an exhibition centred around local heritage.
