Things to do

-Local history. A truly inspiring landmark close to Seahouses is the Norman Bamburgh Castle, which sits on an outcrop and dates to the 11th Century, although there’s evidence of a much earlier stronghold here. Also close is Alnwick, a picturesque town, which also has a Norman Castle that has featured in a host of films, including the Harry Potter series.

-Beaches. Up and down the coast from Seahouses you’ll discover unspoiled sandy beaches with sand dunes. Weather conditions and sea temperatures usually put water sports out of the question, but surfing is available, and the beaches also make for scenic places to enjoy kite flying, dog walks and horseback rides.

-Walks. The coast in this part of England is known for its rugged and unblemished scenery, and if you’d like to see more you could walk a section of the Northumberland Coast Path, which runs from Cresswell up to Berwick-upon-Tweed. Head away from the coast and there’s the wild landscapes of the Northumberland National Park, with its many options for walkers.

-Golf. If you play golf then you might like to take a round at one of the local golf courses during your visit to a Seahouses holiday home. Seahouses has its own course, right next to the North Sea, but there are also golf clubs at Belford, Alnwick, Dunstanburgh Castle and Bamburgh, all of which are a comfortable car ride.

-Day trips. Heading a little further north is the island of Lindisfarne, which is steeped in history and legend, and protected as an Area of Natural Beauty. You can visit the beautiful ruins of the monastery here, which was founded in the 7th Century. Berwick-upon-Tweed isn’t far, and is also a beautiful destination, still enclosed by its medieval walls.

Weather in Seahouses

Seahouses, like the rest of Britain, is in an oceanic climate zone, with mild weather the norm throughout the year. Being next to the coast it can be exposed to strong, bracing winds, but actual temperatures are rarely extreme. Winters are cool, with daily highs getting up to six or seven on average in January, although there are occasional cold spells with wintry weather. If you visit holiday homes in Seahouses in summer you’ll probably get moderate weather - at this time of year daily temperatures usually hit the high-teens.

Travel to Seahouses

Air travel is possible thanks to Newcastle International Airport (NCL), which is an hour south of the village of Seahouses, and is reachable from cities in all parts of the UK and portions of Europe. By road from Newcastle, it’s a simple drive up the A1 to reach your holiday cottage in Seahouses. The closest railway station is Alnmouth, which is on the East Coast Mainline, and so offers access not just to towns and cities in the region, but also Edinburgh and London.

Fisherman Cottage in Seahouses - relaxing 4 night break end of November

5 of 5
As soon as we opened the door we were 100% impressed with every room we entered. The best 4 nights sleep in a while with soft beds and thick feather duvets. Netflix excellent although wifi a little hit and miss. Fantastic location turn left after the arch and the harbour and beach is in sight with lovely walks for Holly and a few minutes to the Main Street and 2 dog friendly pubs. Had the best fish and chips and turn right after the arch a great fishmonger. The cottage is in a quiet cobbled courtyard and so peaceful. Every kitchen utensil is provided. I will highly recommend this cottage, visiting Seahouses then you must stay here.

Perfect for our stay

Lovely clean, tidy and well located property with all the facilities you would ever need for your stay. Being a bungalow we found it perfect for our one year old who could safely cruise around the property.
