Most visitors to the Ribble Valley area enjoy the opportunity for walking, cycling, fishing and horse riding in some of the most beautiful unspoilt English countryside. The area has many traffic-free walking trails for enjoying the fresh air and natural sights. Eating Out

The area around your Ribble Valley vacation home has many pretty villages, each with their own pub or inn, just waiting to be discovered. They make an excellent place for a hearty meal of local Lancashire hot pot or one of the local pies. The area has plenty of tearooms and some upscale restaurants. The Ribble Valley Food Trail is well known and a copy can be obtained from local tourist information offices.

Local Festivals

The area always has a full calendar of events. There is a popular Jazz Festival in Clitheroe on the first weekend in May and an annual cycle race known as the Clitheroe Grand Prix. January 5th is Sausage Day in the area and the Spring Festival is celebrated in many Lancashire villages.

Clitheroe

The market town of Clitheroe has one of the oldest buildings in Lancashire, the Norman Keep of Clitheroe Castle. It accommodated a Royalist garrison during the English Civil War and offers great views of the surrounding area. The town has a local park and many interesting shops and pubs. Ribchester

The historic architecture makes a visit to Ribchester well worthwhile. It also has a historic Roman Museum with many interesting local exhibits which date back almost 2,000 years.

Gawthorpe Hall

This National Trust property originally designed by Charles Barry and Pugin is now home to the Rachel Kay-Shuttleworth textile collection and many National Portrait Gallery paintings.

Getting to your holiday home in the Ribble Valley is easy. Flights from all over the UK and Europe arrive in Manchester Airport which is just 50 miles drive away. Liverpool airport is 65 miles away.

The cottage was very well equipped, comfortable and clean. It was the perfect base for getting out and about. The views from the farm are amazing and we loved being up on top of a hill away from everything. And, our daughter loved seeing the chickens, sheep and cows every day!
