Make a self catering cottage or holiday rental in Portreath, Cornwall your home away from home

The charming village of Portreath lies on the north coast of Cornwall between Redruth and Camborne. Once a small fishing village, it became a bustling port in the heyday of tin and copper mining in the area. The first harbour dates back to 1713, although it has since been replaced. Boats are guided into the harbour through the notoriously difficult entrance from the building known as the Pepper Pot.

Portreath has a small sandy beach and a tidal swimming pool beneath the harbour wall. Battery Hill looks down on the beach and was once where cannons where placed in the 18th century.

Glendurgan Garden and Trelissick Garden are two of the most lovely, both just a short drive from your Portreath holiday rental.

Golf

One of the best ways to enjoy the rolling countryside and sea views is from one of the local golf clubs. Play a round at Radnor Golf Centre, 3 miles from Porthreath or at Tehidy Park Golf Club, just down the road from your vacation home in Portreath.

Beaches

Some of the best surfing in Britain can be found along this Atlantic coast. Porthtowan, 3 miles away, hosts the annual SAS Rip Curl Cornish and Open Longboard Championship. There is a local surf club and a hire shop for equipment, boards and wet suits right on the beach.

St Ives

Sprawling up the hillside above its two main beaches, St Ives is a quaint Cornish village with tiny fishermen’s cottages lining the narrow streets. The town has been attracting artists for decades and the Tate Gallery opened here in 1993. Its purpose-built building is as interesting as the artworks themselves with spectacular sea views from the café terrace.

Made to feel very welcome

4 of 5
The flat was really clean. The sheets and towels were lovely. The kitchen was exceptionally well equipped. The bed was comfortable though not that wide. We loved watching the waves crash over the sea wall and the people dodging the spray as they walked along the harbour. The sparkling wine, crackers and Christmas decorations were a lovely addition. Really helpful to be allowed to drop our bags off early. We had not realised it did not have central heating and appreciated the blanket for legs when watching the very small TV. There is no phone signal in the flat and the internet was incredibly slow refusing to send e-mails most of the time and taking 1.5 hours to download a 30 minute program. You can hear the people from the flat above. There was only 2 of us so a sofa for 2 and no other relaxing seating was fine. The village is really well equipped with a good bakers, Chinese take away and pubs. Some amazing walks that I would highly recommend.

A very happy Christmas

5 of 5
We had a lovely 5 days stay over Christmas. There was a cheery welcome of decorations and a Christmas tree. It was beautifully warm in the flat with all the comforts of home. It was also good to know the car was safe and dry as we had quite a stormy night while there. The beach was a wonderful sight from the balcony, watching the waves breaking and the many surfers out on xmas and boxing days. Loved it x
