Make a holiday home in Porlock your home away from home

The quaint village of Porlock has been described as the jewel in Exmoor’s crown. Located on the coastline within Exmoor National Park, Porlock is surrounded by scenic rolling hills to the south and the Bristol Channel to the north. Few holiday destinations in Somerset can compete with the variety of sightseeing opportunities and activities that Porlock can offer. Hiking, cycling, wildlife watching, and fishing are just a small sample of what is possible here.

HomeAway offers a varied selection of holiday homes in Porlock to choose from. Ranging from two to 15 bedrooms, rentals start from around £300 per week. Offering amenities such as internet access, proximity to the sea, BBQ facilities, and the ability to bring pets along, visitors head to Porlock for everything from adventurous outdoor holidays to romantic retreats. Porlock holiday homes have all the comforts of home and are fully furnished to a high standard to ensure that visitors can make the most out of their time in Exmoor. Similar options can also be found in holiday rentals in Porlock Weir, Porlock’s near neighbour.

Things to do

-Outdoor activities: Visitors staying in a Porlock holiday apartment will find that they have easy access to the dozens of trails that criss-cross Exmoor National Park. Walking is naturally a popular activity, as the park is filled with beautiful scenery and wildlife. Exmoor ponies have been known to frequent the area, and there are even pony and horse treks available for booking within Porlock itself. Mountain bike hire is also available from within the village.

-Beaches: Porlock sits at a prime spot along the 30-mile Exmoor coastline. Though much of the coast at Exmoor is made up mainly of rocky outcrops and cliffs, at Porlock it flattens into a shingle ridge that is accessible to visitors. The environment at Porlock’s coast is such that a tidal salt marsh forms, which is a prime spot for wading and bird watching. Numerous varieties of waterfowl pass through the area, including egrets, spoonbills, and ospreys.

-Golf: Founded in 1882, the Minehead and West Somerset Golf Club is located seven miles from holiday homes in Porlock in the popular seaside holiday town of Minehead. The 18-hole seaside golf course here is the oldest in the country and is open to visitors for a reasonable green fee. In addition to the course, there is an extensive onsite clubhouse and restaurant.

-Family attractions: Families enjoying a stay in a Porlock holiday home won’t want to miss the opportunity to ride along the West Somerset Railway. The steam railway runs across 20 miles of the Somerset countryside from Minehead, and is a great family day out. Also near Porlock is the Norman-era Dunster Castle, as well as the Exmoor Falconry and Animal Park. Both destinations offer hours of family entertainment.

Weather in Porlock

Rain is pretty common throughout the year, though it lets up a bit in the summer months. The wettest months are generally October through January.

Travel to Porlock

Luxurious dog friendly house with everything in it that you could wish for.

5 of 5
Hugh, & I along with our two dogs Fred & Bramble had a wonderful week in Porlock. Our Stay in the Dog House made it even better. The owners have obviously put a lot of thought into furnishing the house and provided everything that you could wish for. The beds were very comfortable and the fresh clean white bed linen & soft fluffy towels were a real treat. The house is situated just off the main high street and within a stones throw of all shops, pubs, and restaurants. The pubs and restaurants in Porlock were dog friendly. A big plus for us dog owners. There are a lot of walks for those who like walking and I could not believe how friendly, welcoming, and helpful the people of Porlock are. This is a definite house for us to return to. Thank you Steve & Juliet.

Very well appointed and maintained accommodation

5 of 5
All of our group loved staying at this accommodation and would do so again. We have been together walking the SWCP for the past 8 years so have plenty of experience renting holiday homes for large numbers. We can easily say this was the best! The bedrooms and beds were very comfortable with some having more storage than others. Some of the other facilities such as the refrigerator storage and seating in the lounge were on the tight side. There were 10 of us in total staying in both houses. When we were altogether in the larger house’s lounge there were not enough easy chairs to go round. Having said that it was only a problem when watching the England / Columbia match lol. Also we ate out most of the time - there are 4 pubs within easy walking distance. Cooker crockery cutlery glass wear pots and pans all in top condition. Plenty of hot water for showers etc. Alexa was a great feature. The small house was overrun with weeds at the front giving a false impression of the neat clean house within. There is no outside space at the smaller house so we needed to call round to the larger house to relax in their court yard. The houses are only a few yards apart. Do not fall faul of the parking restrictions as the neighbours will soon let you know. All in all a great place to stay. I hope you find this a fair review.
