Make a holiday cottage in Polperro your home away from home

Located midway between Plymouth and Newquay, Polperro is a charming fishing harbour that has won over the hearts of holidaymakers. The tiny village dates back to the 13th century and makes for a picturesque and charmingly quaint holiday destination. Sitting in a narrow cliff ravine, it has an atmosphere of time having stood still yet offers the modern holidaymaker plenty of things to see and do – indeed, Polperro's one of the most popular places in Cornwall. Close to beaches and offering easy access to the South West Coast Path, visitors choose to stay in Polperro to enjoy the great outdoors and explore many of the major attractions in Cornwall.

HomeAway has a wide variety of holiday cottages in Polperro available year round. Cottages have from two to five bedrooms and can accommodate up to eight guests. In addition to being fully furnished to a high standard, many Polperro holiday cottages offer added amenities such as a pool, tennis court, and easy access to the beach. Weekly rates start at around £450 in Polperro, which is slightly less than holiday homes in St. Austell nearby.

Things to do

-Outdoor activities: The South West Coast Path is just a short walk from many of the holiday cottages in Polperro. There are several notable walks originating in Polperro, including routes to Looe and smugglers’ bay at Talland. These walks take visitors along the beautiful Cornish coastline as well as past centuries-old monasteries and other historical sights.

-Beaches: Polperro is home to its own small sandy beach and is also close to excellent beaches in Looe where HomeAway also offers holiday rentals. Many beaches in the area are suitable for swimming and allow dogs as well. Polperro Beach features café and toilet facilities for added convenience. Portwrinkle is one of the most popular beaches in the area and is suitable for families and surfers alike.

-Family attractions: Families staying in a Polperro holiday cottage would be remiss if they didn’t visit the Polperro Model Village. This fun attraction appeals to visitors of all ages and provides some insight into old Cornish folklore. Just ten miles away in St. Austell is the Eden Project, Cornwall’s most visited site and is simultaneously entertaining and educational. Animals lovers also won’t want to miss The Monkey Sanctuary in Looe and the Porfell Wildlife Sanctuary in Liskeard, both of which are just five miles from Polperro.

-Golf: Golf courses abound in this part of Cornwall. Looe Golf Club is an inland course located a few miles away from Polperro that welcomes guests and offers stunning panoramic views of Cornwall. Also nearby is Whitsand Bay Golf Club, which has an 18-hole course that dates back to 1905. The cliff-top course is right next to the beach and will challenge even the most experienced golfer. A little further afield is Carlyon Bay Golf Club, which offers another beautiful cliff-side course.

Weather in Polperro

Polperro enjoys some of the best weather in the UK. Temperatures can hit a pleasant 20°C or more in July and August, which is a good time to hit the beach. Spring and autumn are quite mild with high temperatures well into the double-digits. Winters are chilly, but freezing temperatures are rare which makes holiday cottages in Polperro suitable for all times of year. Rain falls throughout the year, though it tends to be drier in the summer than in the winter.

Travel to Polperro

Polperro is about an hour’s drive west of Plymouth and is located a few miles off the A38. The closest airport to the fishing village is in Newquay. From here it’s possible to hire a car and make the 50-minute drive down to Polperro.

Just perfect!

5 of 5
Myself, my partner and our 4 year old daughter have just returned from a week in Cornwall, staying in Portmellon at Seatons Rest. The apartment was perfect for us, perfect location as well as being tastefully decorated with all the mod cons. We were able to walk into Mevagissey for lunch/dinner and there is a small bay just at the end of the road so we would wander down each morning and evening to admire the view. The location is great to explore further afield in Cornwall too. I can't rate this place highly enough, it's been renovated to a very high standard. Can't wait to return in the near future. So glad we chose this apartment.
