Make a holiday rental home or holiday cottage in Pensilva, Cornwall your home away from home

Pensilva is a village in South East Cornwall. It has its own football club and is close to Liskeard, Looe and Polperro and convenient for the Tamar Bridge and the City of Plymouth in Devon, as well as Bodmin Moor and the south and north Cornish coasts. Pensilva is within the Caradon Cornish Mining World Heritage site. It is a special community in which the non-political organisation Gorseth Kernow exists to maintain the Celtic spirit.

Places to stay in Pensilva

Pensilva evolved like neighbouring Minions and Darite because of the mining activity that was taking place on the moorland above. Pensilva only had one farm until the expanding mines needed accommodation to house its workforce. Within a few years numerous smallholdings and rows of cottages were erected, followed by small businesses, shops, three chapels and a pub. At this time the pub doubled as a hotel for visiting inspectors and speculators.

As the mining days came to an end people moved away from the area, but today these old miners cottages have been renovated and are now used as self-catering holiday cottages. Tourist information offices and estate agents receive numerous enquiries for this type of holiday property because a holiday cottage gives you the freedom you need to explore all that Cornwall has on offer.

Self-catering has always been a cheaper option but a cottage is much more spacious than a room in a bed and breakfast and most hotels. Cottage holidays offer a home from home experience. They are tastefully furnished with all mod cons and some allow you to bring you dog on holiday as well.

On Your Left in Callington provides informative and entertaining guided walks and coach trips and Cornish Welcome Tours in Launceston offers tailor made tours of Cornwall and Devon for small groups or individuals. The Calstock Ferry and Motor Launch Company in Gunnislake is a passenger ferry between Calstock and Cotehele Quay and is useful to those walking the Tamar Valley Trail.

Bere Ferrers Station Heritage Centre near Tavistock is on the Tamar Valley Rail Line in converted railway carriages. Other heritage centres include Morwellham Quay in Tavistock and Dingles Fairground Heritage Centre in Lifton. Comfortable spacious cabin

4 of 5
I took my 95 year old dad for a couple of days. Plenty of space and everything is on one level, so no hazards. The deck is great but the weather prevented sitting out this time. The only real drawback is the busy main road but the view across the river is well worth it. We played a little game counting the passengers on the hourly train from Liskeard - usually no more than six people, occasionally none!

A sanctuary from the stresses and strains of modern life, but with all comforts you would want.

I think I struck gold when I stumbled upon this gem of a property. I booked at the last minute after going stir crazy while while recovering from a serious illness. I doubt I will be lucky enough to be able to do that again in the future. Mike and Jean (the owners) proved excellent hosts making me feel very welcome and providing help or directions whenever I asked. The property is situated away from all the stresses of modern life in a secluded valley. The views are stunning and the wildlife abounds, yet you can walk to the village in 10 minutes which has almost everything you could need. I parked the car and hardly moved it again, enjoying walking from the doorstep. If you do want to see more, it is very well situated for access to the rest of Cornwall. The only downside, for me, was that I got into trouble from my wife for over doing the exercise. It is so difficult to stop yourself when the countryside is this nice.
