Make a holiday rental property or holiday cottage in Northern Ireland your home away from home

It is impossible not to relax on holiday in Northern Ireland. The windswept moors, rugged mountains and timeless lake scenery is an absolute joy to explore from any Northern Ireland holiday cottage, and the many unassuming rural towns and quaint fishing villages hide a wealth of cultural and historical treasures.

Things to do in Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland property is the perfect base for anyone that loves the great outdoors, active living and nature. The fishing is simply exceptional, whether sea fishing, course fishing or game fishing. Lough Erne is a particularly popular place to fish from a Northern Ireland holiday cottage, but there are many miles of rivers and countless loughs for fishing.

Golf holidays in Northern Ireland are also of the highest quality. There are some 90 golf courses in Northern Ireland including Royal Portrush and Royal County Down (which are both exceptional links courses), and golf is taken very seriously. There are some excellent Northern Irish golf passes you can buy, giving you a great selection of courses to play during your Northern Irish holiday.

The open countryside is a walker’s, mountain biker’s and horse rider’s dream. The stunning landscapes of the Mountains of Mourne, Fermanagh Lakeland and Ulster Moors are covered in a maze of trails, taking in some of the most important attractions and sites. There are thousands of castles and fortresses dating back to the 12th century which adorn the landscape, and around Fermanagh and Tyrone especially are an astonishing array of Stone Age discoveries. The walled city of Derry and Mountsandel are two of the most popular places to visit whilst staying in a Northern Ireland holiday cottage, but there is so much to see across the whole region that you shall certainly not want for attractions, whether historical, cultural or natural.

Places to visit on holiday in Northern Ireland

In Northern Ireland, you will find the vibrant city of Belfast in County Antrim and a landscape of quaint villages, lush green scenery and long golden beaches. One of the most popular beaches is the Portrush East Strand Blue Flag Beach, which features fabulous views over the Skerries to the Scottish Islands and is backed by an extensive dune system and the Royal Portrush golf course. The Glens of Antrim features lovely valleys and waterfalls.

Northern Ireland's most popular tourist attraction, the Giant's Causeway, is an incredible volcanic rock formation made up of 40,000 symmetrical basalt columns that resemble a giant staircase leading from the cliffs to the ocean floor, and is an almost vital part of any Northern Ireland holiday experience

Belfast is known for its lively nightlife, fine dining, and great shopping. Cultural and historical sights for guests of Ireland holiday rentals include the City Hall in Donegall Square, St. Anne's Cathedral, the Ulster Museum, Belfast Castle, and the historic buildings on the Golden Mile.

Weather in Northern Ireland

The weather in Northern Ireland can be a little unpredictable, but it is this that keeps the Emerald Isle quite so lush and attractive! Packing a rain coat is always advisable when travelling to a self catering Northern Ireland property just in case, but you shouldn’t need it between June and August as temperatures rise into the 20’s (7deg;C).

Travel to Northern Ireland

Reaching Northern Ireland holiday cottages could not be much easier. As part of the UK, Northern Ireland is wonderfully easy to access, with flights arriving into Belfast (BFS), George Best (BHD) and Derry City Airports (LDY) from across the whole of Great Britain. There are also regular ferry services from ports across western England and Wales.

Wonderful, homely and spacious apartment with stunning views of Dundrum Bay and the Mourne Mountains

5 of 5
We booked this property on the strength of the beautiful photographs on the website and we were not disappointed! The quality of the apartment and the views of the surrounding area were every bit as stunning as the marketing photographs suggest. As a family of 4 we really loved the fact that the children had their own bedrooms and plenty of internal space to play in during the times we were in the apartment. The selection of toys and games provided were also a pleasant surprise (particularly for our 5 year old boy who loved the toy lightsaber!), as were the wine and chocolates which had been left for us on arrival. The apartment is well appointed, spacious, clean and perfectly located as a base for exploring the local coastal area, excellent local restaurants and the Mountains of Mourne. It is also handily place for accessing Belfast (only 40 minutes away) and Dublin. I would strongly recommend this property as a beautiful base from which to explore Northern Ireland.

Stayed a week in August. Apartment was very well equipped, spacious and extremely comfortable. Despite being on a busy seafront, inside the apartment was very quiet and cosy. Close to all restaurants and beach - perfect!
