Make a holiday cottage in North Somerset your home away from home

Occupying an enviable stretch of coastline just west of Bristol, and containing a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, North Somerset is a real gem. The rural retreat offers large swathes of beautiful countryside as well as a selection of charming seaside towns to explore. Visitors to the area can enjoy life at a slower pace, which makes it an ideal destination for a romantic getaway. North Somerset will also appeal to outdoor enthusiasts, as it is home to incredible limestone gorges, stunning coastal walks, and plenty of public footpaths.

HomeAway has a wonderful selection of North Somerset holiday cottages to choose from. Most are located in the coastal towns, like our holiday cottages in Clevedon and holiday apartments in Weston-Super-Mare. Starting at prices from less than £300 per week, these cosy escapes all come fully furnished, and offer the visitor the feel of a second home, as opposed to a hotel room. Some holiday cottages in North Somerset also offer a range of additional amenities such as satellite television, pet friendliness, and sea views.

Things to do

-Beaches: The sandy bay at Weston-Super-Mare is the best beach in the region. Stretching for miles, there are several different activities here for people of all ages. At the centre of the beach is a pier that offers plenty of attractions for children. The beach itself is wide and flat, making it perfect for sunbathing and building sandcastles. There are designated areas for wind and watersports.

-Outdoor activities: In addition to a variety of coastal walks holidaymakers staying in a North Somerset holiday cottage can visit Mendip Hills, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Comprised of striking gorges, rocky outcrops, and grasslands full of flowers, there is a lot to see here. Public paths traverse the area and visitors can choose to explore Mendip Hills either on foot or on a bicycle.

-Family attractions: The Grand Pier at Weston-Super-Mare is a favourite with children. The popular attraction offers a variety of rides, play areas, and arcade games that will keep kids of all ages entertained. Families can also make the drive out to Bristol to visit its many family-friendly attractions. Popular choices include Bristol Aquarium, SS Great Britain, and Bristol Zoo Gardens.

-Golf: Golfers will find several lovely parkland courses along the border of North Somerset and Bristol. Bristol & Clifton Golf Club, Ashton Court Golf Course, and Long Ashton Golf Club are all within easy reach of holiday cottages in North Somerset. Bristol & Clifton and Ashton Court offer great casual 18-hole courses, and the course at Long Ashton is highly regarded. All three courses welcome visitors.

Weather in North Somerset

The weather in North Somerset is not unlike the weather in neighbouring Bristol. High temperatures exceed 15°C from May to September and peak in late summer. Winters are chilly with highs hovering around 9°C and lows occasionally dropping to freezing. Rainfall is prevalent throughout the year, but is heavier in the winter than in summer.

Travel to North Somerset

The M5 and A38 both run through the whole of North Somerset, making the region very accessible by car. There are several rail stations in the area, but getting around with a vehicle is highly recommended. Those without a vehicle can hire one from Bristol or from Bristol Airport.

Well presented property....ideally suited for stays in the South West

Nice property which hit all our needs, would definitely recommend as a place to stay if you are looking for somewhere in the Weston - super -mere area.

Lovely accommodation in a beautiful location

5 of 5
We stayed for a mini break between Christmas and New Year. Liz is lovely - communication was problem free and prompt. The welcoming eggs, prosecco and THE BEST Jaffa cake EVER (homemade by her daughter) as well as the milk were a lovely touch and greatly appreciated. The Coach House is lovely, bright and cosy. Beds are comfy, you have all you need and it is very clean and tidy. It is set in a beautiful location and I loved the view from the main windows. It is ideally located as a base for Bristol, Bath and Glastonbury which we visited during our stay and the tips for parking and local shops, left by Liz in the handbook, were really helpful. We didn't switch the TV on once which is a miracle with a 19 and 14 year old - the board games kept us busy (as well as bringing out our competitive sides). Sadly we didn't get to use the table tennis but we will next time because it is definitely a place to go back to.

Wonderfully cosy cottage

5 of 5
We had a wonderful 3 night stay in this cottage. Our 2 dogs also enjoyed their stay. The cottage was very well equipped, everything we needed to make our short break enjoyable. We'll definitely be going back.
