Make holiday rental accommodation or a holiday cottage in Norfolk your home away from home

Norfolk, the northern tip of East Anglia, is a blissfully peaceful rural region in the East of England. Whether you are interested in quiet rural walks, quaint beach holidays, wildlife, history or golf, Norfolk has something to suit every member of your family. Norfolk cottages conjure up images of idyllic thatched homes overlooking the wild Norfolk Broads, but there is a huge amount to discover across the county too.

Things to do on holiday in Norfolk

Renting a Norfolk holiday cottage allows you to escape the pace of everyday life. Wherever you end up in Norfolk, you can rest assured that there will be a picturesque village, historic building or timeless Norfolk public house to investigate. There will certainly be no shortage of market towns filled with little shops, family owned restaurants and farmers markets surrounding your accommodation in Norfolk.

The Norfolk coast is clad in wide sandy beaches, backed with large dunes providing nesting sites for many species of birdlife. Even during the height of summer, you will be able to find a secluded piece of sand on which to lie back and relax. There are a handful of Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty along the Norfolk Coast, which have made the Coastal Path a huge attraction for walkers, cyclists and horse riders staying in accommodation in Norfolk. You can also enjoy a vast number of water sports, notably sailing which has a secured place in the hearts of many Norfolk residents, especially on the Norfolk Broads, during your cottage holiday.

Norfolk’s golf courses make it a prime destination in Britain for golfing holidays. There are beautifully landscaped (mostly flat) golf courses across the county which make taking a Norfolk cottage a real treat for golfers. The many water ways which cross and surround Norfolk mean it is a haven for anglers too. Even if you do not manage to catch that trophy fish, there are always plenty of stories going round the pubs in the evenings!

Places to holiday in Norfolk

Norwich is the county town of Norfolk, and is a fast growing market town which has developed into a delightfully vibrant and cosmopolitan city. Packed with great shops, atmospheric cafes and vibrant bars, Norwich is a great place to spend a day from a Norfolk cottage. Norwich has even been voted in the top 10 shopping destinations in Britain.

Weather in Norfolk

Norfolk is officially the driest place in Britain. With average temperatures of over 25°C in the summer, it is little wonder that people flock to the coast and the Norfolk Broads during the summer. The historic and cultural attractions of the county and the cosy Norfolk cottages provide shelter during the winter, when temperatures average around 5°C.

Travel to Norfolk

Norfolk is easily accessible from across the UK. Train and road networks in the area are magnificent, with train stations found in some very small towns meaning that you can get very close to your accommodation in Norfolk using only public transport if you decide not to take a car.

Great location, well equipped, fantastic owner - we'll be back

5 of 5
Myself, my wife and daughter (16) stayed in this beautifully presented 2 bed bungalow for 10 nights in August. It comes with just about everything and anything you could need for a comfortable stay (it's all detailed in the folder so read that first). The bungalow is situated on a private park so is very quiet, ideal for relaxing on the patio with a BBQ. Weybourne is a small village but has a good local shop and the Ship Inn is just 250m from the bungalow (take a torch at night and cut through the graveyard!). Nice pub, good food (booking advised), great beers and an extensive gin list plus a lovely beer garden. Dogs are welcome. The beach here is a short drive but we used West Runton on the way to Cromer which has more facilities and lifeguards (car parking £3 for the day). Weybourne is an ideal base to explore the north Norfolk coast with Sheringham 5 mins away (has a Tesco) and Cromer within 15 mins. Plenty of restaurants to choose from, the Dormy Hotel in West Runton does a good Sunday carvery but you have to book and we'd recommend Dave's Fish & Chip restaurant in Sheringham for sheer value for money. The kitchen at the bungalow is fully equipped and there's a BBQ if you want to stay home. Further afield, Norwich is 30 miles (intu Chapelfield is best for retail therapy) and Hunstanton the same distance (come back along the coast road and take in Wells next the Sea and the other small towns and villages). Cromer has the pier and a cinema for wet days. We preferred Sheringham which seems to have a lot more to offer and good beaches too. We have been to Norfolk many times before but always find new things to see and do. The roads and beaches are very quiet compared to Devon and Cornwall but with the right weather there's not much difference (it's cheaper too). We will be back to stay here again, maybe a long weekend out of season and then a longer stay in years to come. Jane, the owner, is fantastic. We had a few changes before and during our stay and she was more than helpful. While we had no problems while we were there we knew that Jane was always available if we needed her. Cannot praise her enough and she (and the bungalow) sets a high standard for other owners.

Fabulous gem of a property

Lovely property, well situated for the Broads, Norwich and Suffolk. Excellent host and lots of home comforts available that you don’t get elsewhere. Would definitely recommend.
