Staying in any old house is always a treat and this one will not let you down. A refurbished 300 year old docker's cottage close to the estuary this is the prefect base for what I expect is a little visited part of England. It will accommodate a couple, a couple of mates or a family of three. It is very comfortable and practical and has the big plus of a large and secluded outside area. It is perfectly placed for trips to Mersea Island, Clacton-On-Sea and Frinton-On-Sea. Mersea Island is a must for seafood lovers and the choice of places to eat there is fantastic and all good value for money. Wivenhoe itself is a very pleasant small town, areas of which close to the River Colne have been tastefully redeveloped, There are around 5-6 pubs and I would happily recommend The Black Buoy and the Rose & Crown. Penny kindly left a few basic food stuffs to cover a basic breakfast and organised a parking permit (£2 per day). It was great.

A weekend with family, and ( a day on a Thames Barge, my daughter bought for her fathers birthday gift) The house was the perfect location taking me back in time, with the character and feel of the place. Space inside and out we all loved it. The generosity of the owner and her pleasant manner left us happy to be there. Thank you Lois xxxxxx
