Make a holiday home in Malborough your home away from home

The picturesque village of Malborough in Devon looks as if it was always meant to be the perfect seaside romantic getaway destination. Clinging to the gentle hills of the South Hams, Malborough has all the conveniences of a modern town, but offers the scenery and atmosphere of a far-flung resort. Within reach by foot from the village is the spectacular South West Coast Path, and six separate sandy beaches. Despite its size, Malborough acts as a community hub for the surrounding villages: its amenities include two pubs, a petrol station, post office, and hotel/restaurant.

A number of wonderful holiday homes in Malborough are listed with HomeAway. Many boast stunning sea views along with other amenities such as internet access, air conditioning, and washer/dryer facilities. Holiday homes in Malborough and nearby rentals in Salcombe range from one to six bedrooms and appeal to visitors of all budgets. One and two bedroom holiday homes start at around £250 per week and prices go up from there. For those interested in short stay holidays, a few select rentals are available on a nightly or weekend basis.

Things to do

-Outdoor activities: Walking, cycling, and horse riding in and around Malborough is a real pleasure. This part of Devon is so lush and green that many visitors are reluctant to head back indoors, particularly on a warm and sunny day. The coastline near holiday homes in Malborough is part of the South West Coast Path and offers stunning scenery of cliffs, countryside, and the sea.

-Beach: There are six beaches within a mile or two of the centre of Malborough. Several Malborough holiday homes are much closer to the water and have lovely sea views. In the summer these beaches attract visitors from all over the UK, as many are suitable for swimming and the weather can get quite warm here. Most of the beaches near Malborough are sandy and are just as ideal for sunbathing as they are for swimming.

-Watersports: Holidaymakers after watersports need look no further than Thurlestone Beach. Thurlestone has a selection of lovely holiday rentals in its own right, and is just three miles from central Malborough. The beach here is a haven for watersports activities such as diving, sea kayaking, and windsurfing. The water is also calm enough for swimming, and there is a lifeguard on duty throughout the summer months. Dogs are also more than welcome to join their owners on the beach.

-Family attractions: If the beaches aren't enough to keep kids fully occupied, families staying in Malborough holiday accommodation can make the short drive to Dartmouth. Once there, tourists can visit attractions such as Dartmouth Castle, Dartmouth Zoological Park, and the Woodlands Leisure Park, which is more than enough to keep kids occupied for hours.

Weather in Malborough

However, high temperatures remain above 15°C from May to October. Winters are pleasant enough for outdoor activities, though it does tend to rain more often between October and December.

Fantastic Week in Sunny Salcombe

5 of 5
Enjoyed our stay in Lakeside, the house was ideally located, just a short walk into town. The accommodation was very clean and well presented. The view from the rear bedroom, lounge and patio area is worth the rental fee alone, you can just sit there all day and watch the coming's and going's on Whitestrand Quay and the estuary. All in all, just a great place to spend your holidays.

Fantastic home from home in a wonderful location.

We had a brilliant stay here made even better by Tricia, our wonderful host. We were greeted with a smile and a home made easter cake! The property is probably the cleanest place I have ever stayed, well looked after with a beautiful garden. The garden is enclosed which was ideal for our little boy and beyond that is a field with a pond and geese which delighted our son. We had to drag him away from the window the first evening! The kitchen is well equipped, sofas and beds very comfortable. We also made use of the free ferry pass a few times which was lovely and something we perhaps wouldn't have done without having the pass! We had a brilliant stay and enjoyed exploring the surrounding area. We were lucky with the weather but had we not been we wouldn't have minded staying cosy in the cottage. Thank you Tricia, we hope to be back soon!
