Ty Byr is a remarkably spacious and well appointed cottage that defies its modest exterior. It benefits from a remarkably equipped kitchen and is a warm and comfortable base to return to following a long day exploring the glorious Snowdonia national park. Llanberis may not have the beauty of nearby Beddgellert; however, an evening at Pete's Eats instils a genuine affection for the place. A quick stroll from the cottage lies the wonderful Slate Museum; free to enter and a fantastic introduction to the industrial history of North Wales. A walk around the Vivien Quarry is reminiscent of something from the Lord of the Rings; an atmospheric landscape sculptured by the thousands of quarrymen whose endeavours not only provided slate for much of the world but who give the area its bluey-grey appearance. For the adventerous and more sedate alike I cannot recommend Ty Byr highly enough as an ideal base. The owner provides a lovely welcome pack including locally produced jams, and in the winter a basket of logs to get the wood burning stove glowing. In the end these were not needed as the Christmas temperature in Llanberis was unseasonably warm! Thank you Ella for a wonderful festive experience.
