Make a holiday cottage in Kingston your home away from home

Kingston is a scattered village in Devon with a permanent population of just 400. The village is located one mile from Wonell and three miles from the historic market town of Modbury, which is home to good selection of local shops, pubs and eateries. Most holidaymakers make good use of the excellent and beautiful coastal footpath as a means of exercise and sightseeing. The surrounding area also offers plenty of activities for families. HomeAway have a superb choice of Kingston holiday cottages available to suit groups and families of all sizes.

Holiday cottages in Kingston are made up of a selection of quaint buildings and converted barns. They have all been refurbished to the highest standards of comfort with all the expected amenities and furnishings. Many Kingston holiday homes have a lawn, garden, BBQ area, terrace, and internet access, and a select number advertise as pet friendly. Weekly rates start from just £315 per week, which is slightly lower than the nearby holiday rentals in Paignton.

Things to do

-Beaches: Wonnell Beach is two miles from holiday cottages in Kingston and comprises an unusual combination of grey sand, blue waters and green vegetation. This beach is popular for dog walking as it is pet friendly. Most visitors to Kingston also make use of nearby Bigbury-on-Sea Beach, which is less than five miles away. Bigbury is a popular beach for families with young children as it boasts shallow and calm waters, and is near to a variety of restaurants and cafés.

-Family activities: The Woodlands Adventure Park at Blackawton is a fun way to let little ones (and big kids!) expel some of that pent-up energy. Family admission includes access to all indoor and outdoor activities, the falconry centre, zoo and fun farm. At 16 miles away, the Buckfast Butterflies & Dartmoor Otter Sanctuary is an easy drive from holiday homes in Kingston. The sanctuary provides a fascinating and educational look at how otters live and interact with their natural environment.

-Outdoor attractions: In addition to heading to the beach, walking or cycling, bird watching is a popular outdoor activity in and around Kingston. A lot of visitors stop by King’s Estuary, which is nine miles away, to view all kinds of birds, including buzzards, wood warblers, redstarts and pied flycatchers.

-Food and drink: Kingston is surrounded by villages with excellent eateries and pubs. The Dolphin Inn in Kingston serves excellent pub food and friendly banter with the drinks. Alternatively, enjoy an informal Friday curry dinner and real ale at the Pilchard Inn on Bergh Island, which has been in service for more than 700 years. For some charming harbour city lights and nightlife, head to Plymouth.

The loft is an excellent place to stay, it’s a home from home

5 of 5
We had a lovely 4 night stay at Chris and Louise’s who were great hosts and always on hand if needed, nice touch as well was the welcome pack, we especially liked the cream tea!! The property is modern with all the home comforts you need and beds were really comfortable. Nice little sun terrace for an evening glass of wine and watching the sun go down. Great location for you to explore South Hams and the beach is 2mins wall away or a walk over to Burgh Island is a must. Road cycling is a challenge but worth it, if you want a quiet ride then an early ride is better. Thanks Chris and Louise

Toad Hall at Buckland Park at Easter

5 of 5
I returned to Buckland Park where I'd lived for 10 years in the 1950's when my parents had the guest house there. I knew the grounds, stream and orchard. Straight away I crossed the stream and walked to the left, through the field, over the stile and up the bridle track past Worthy house to the road then turned left to follow the road back to the drive and Toad Hall. Grounded again! I did not try any of the walks to Bantham as time was short but I saw a notice on one of the field gates forbidding entry! Walking on the beach was restful and enjoyable to see families enjoying games of cricket and the surfers actively pursuing their sport. I was extremely happy with the cabin, so well equipped, clean, warm, comfortable and with many pretty touches. Plenty of space for my daughter from Washington DC, and her daughter from Bristol for us all to enjoy. The birds were a delight, I videoed and recorded songs of them as the sun peeped over the hill at dawn.( We counted four squirrels!) Now at home again in Australia I can see my recording of the fields and grounds, hear the birdsongs and feel the magic of the place. Thanks for the flowers (which I put on my In-laws grave in Thurlestone when I left), the chocolates and wine- perfect for Easter. The peace was wonderful and I could do with another stay there to get over jet lag! I'll stay again if I return to the UK in the future. Many thanks for sharing this glorious valley.
