Make a holiday home or holiday cottage in Kent your home away from home

Kent, the ‘garden of England’, is located in the South East of England, consisting of an exhilarating coastline, open unspoilt countryside and some of the oldest and most important cities and towns in England. If you are looking for self catering holiday accommodation in Kent, you are probably aware of much of what is on offer in England’s oldest county.

Things to do on holiday in Kent

Much of England’s history is centred around Kent, with Julius Caesar, William the Conqueror and Napoleon all landing at some point on the shores of the Kent Coastline. This has left Kent with the most impressive and stately castles, grand houses and fascinating historic monuments in England. Canterbury Cathedral, Dover Castle and Penshurst Palace are amongst a few of the most notable places of interest to explore from a Kent holiday cottage.

The coastline, upon which much of the self catering holiday accommodation in Kent is found, is a haven for water sports. Kite surfing has risen to new levels as a sport in Kent, especially around Whitstable and Ramsgate, and surfers flock to Kent holiday cottages in Joss Bay. There are plentiful sailing waters, and jet skiing, kite surfing, windsurfing and sailing courses available from a Kent holiday cottage along the coast. The seal colonies at Herne Bay and the RSPB Nature Reserve in Dungeness are great places to visit on a family holiday to Kent.

Walking and cycling holidays are a spectacular way to discover the many treasures available from a Kent holiday cottage. Walking along the infamous White Cliffs of Dover or through a bluebell carpeted wood fills you with an enormous sense of wellbeing, and lets you return to a holiday home in Kent feeling great. Kent also has 90 public golf courses, so those of you yearning for a round from your self catering holiday accommodation in Kent need not worry; you can undoubtedly find a course, if you can find the time!

There are some great ideas for family holidays to Kent. The sandy beaches and captivating castles of Kent are backed up by charming wildlife parks, Diggerland and the Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway.

Places to take a holiday cottage in Kent

Canterbury is the most famous town in Kent, with a beautiful atmosphere, a stunning coastline and of course, Canterbury Cathedral which draws huge numbers of visitors from their Kent holiday cottages in the surrounding countryside.

Royal Tunbridge Wells is a perfect centre for walking and cycling holidays in Kent, with stunning countryside adorned with some of the best of the historical buildings and monuments in Kent, as well as being just an hour from London.

Weather in Kent

Temperatures in Kent are very varied, but summer temperatures average around 18°C, and winters average around 4°C.

Travel to Kent

Kent is fantastically well connected, so reaching a holiday cottage in Kent from anywhere in the UK, or most of Europe, will be easy. The train and rail networks are extensive, and Kent benefits hugely from its proximity to the transport infrastructure of nearby London.

Amazing, such a lovey site, peaceful and delightful. One of the best night sleeps I've ever had!

5 of 5
We had such a lovely stay. Our good friends had recommended 'The Oak Barn' and to be honest I thought they were probably exaggerating, how wrong was I! The property is gorgeously furnished throughout, comfy seats in front of a wood fire (plenty of logs provided) a good sized dining table and a kitchen I wanted to take home. An unexpected home made afternoon tea was waiting for us on our arrival, absolutely lovely! Bedrooms and beds are huge! I wish we could have taken them home with us, oh so comfortable and more than 7 foot wide!! Both rooms had well appointed bathrooms en-suite. Lovely views from anywhere in/around the property, we even saw a kingfisher flying across one of the lakes as well as an abundance of other wildlife, it really is a country paradise. It’s just the place to relax and forget about the world. We had a great meal at The Globe in Rye and another evening we went to the local boutique cinema, it was just like sitting in your own private viewing room with a chilled glass of pinot grigio watching a top film (Churchill). The four of us (two couples) really enjoyed it and thoroughly recommend it, if I wanted to be picky I’d say the internet is a bit slow from what we're use to in town but worked fine non the less. We are definitely coming back in the summer as there is so much to explore. I'm looking forward to seeing Sissinghurst and Great Dixter and the endless countryside is lovely to explore.
