Coast, country and town within easy reach when you book a holiday rental home or cottage in Holsworthy

Holsworthy is an ancient market town in Devon. It is situated on the River Deer, a branch of the Tamar, close to the Cornwall border and the Tarka Country green hills. This Saxon town was mentioned in the Doomsday book. It is nine miles from Bude in Cornwall and convenient for exploring Dartmoor, Exmoor and Bodmin Moor. Nearby villages include Bridgerule, Clawton, Derriton and Pyworthy.

Places to holiday in Holsworthy

A holiday cottage in Holsworthy is the perfect base to explore the Hartland Peninsula and the sandy beaches of Widemouth Bay and Bude, the coastal paths, the Tarka Trail and the wild moors of Dartmoor. There's so much to see and do that you will want to make an early start and return as late as possible. This is not an easy task when you stay in hotels, guesthouses or B and B establishments.

Renting self-catering holiday accommodation and cottages allows you to plan your day to your own requirements. The north west of Devon is relatively undeveloped and it is expected that it will soon join Hatherleigh as one of the hubs of the Ruby Trail expansion with a network of cycle paths, rural walks and bridleways joining the already popular Tarka Trail and Dartmoor.

Farm cottages are perfect for towns, country and coasts around Holsworthy. There are several organic farms in the area that have Veg box schemes and deliver to holiday cottages and at Colebrook Vale in Bude. However if you don't expect to cook when you are on holiday, then there are numerous restaurants, pubs and cafes in the area catering to all tastes and also takeaways to enjoy in the comfort of your self-catering cottage.

Things to do in Holsworthy

Holsworthy has a sports hall, football ground, swimming pool, park, Bowling Green, tennis courts and cricket club and just outside at Killatree there is an eighteen-hole golf course. Slightly further a field is the Bude and North Cornwall Golf Club. For anglers, Holsworthy has several tackle shops and there is fishing at the nearby Roadford and Tamar lakes and Simpson Valley Coarse Fishery offers fishing on six lakes set in undisturbed parkland surroundings.

Archery, horse riding and sailing, cycling and walking are other pursuits you can take part in or you may prefer to look around the Holsworthy Museum with its five individually themed rooms. Every Wednesday there is a Pannier Market in the busy market square and a Women's Institute market.

The nearby beach at Sandymouth belongs to the National Trust and offers spectacular surfing. Crooklets and Summerleaze beaches near Bude have acres of golden sands.

Weather in Holsworthy

The climate in Holsworthy is mild and warmer than many other parts of England but it will feel cooler the nearer you get to the coasts.

Plymouth and Exeter airports and the railway stations at Plymouth, Exeter, Liskeard and Barnstable serve Holsworthy. National Express operates extensively throughout the area and beyond.

Perfect stay at East Woolley Barn and Riki far exceeded what any staying customer could wish for

5 of 5
From the time we booked the Barn, Riki kept in touch providing us with detailed instructions on travel, supermarkets and places of interest in the area. We wanted a stay in a cosy barn away from the hustle and bustle which is exactly what we got and the barn is so close too many beautiful places! On arrival Riki met us and gave us a tour showing us all we needed to know. The barn was extremely clean and cosy and very well equipped. There is a folder in the barn providing plenty of information of things to do and see in the area including walking routes most of which we walked and the scenery was spectacular. The barn is perfect for exploring both Cornwall and Devon. We definitely hope to return. Thanks Riki and Martin
