Make a holiday rental home or self cottage in Hastings, East Sussex your home away from home

Places to holiday in Hastings, East Sussex

Traversing into East Sussex enriches anyone who ventures to this community of ancient ruins amidst a thriving seaside community. Outdoor activities give the opportunity to take a walk on any section of the path between Hastings and Rye, to cycle, bird watch, or simply relax in one of Hastings' self catering cottages.

Visitors can walk through history or simply stroll along cliff top heights, exploring charming areas of ancient woodlands and unique animal and plant life in Hastings Country Park. Pelham Beach is an equally relaxing atmosphere, especially for families with the beaches efforts to maintain children’s safety. Other less traditional beachside locations include an area which allows visitors to watch as fisherman do daily work on the shore, getting ready to leave a community known as having the largest active fleet of fishing boats in England. This is as much entertaining as it is educational.

An upcoming cultural scene has given this community many venues from which to choose including the Stables Theatre and Art Center, hosting musical and theatrical performances. Electric Palace Cinema shows a variety of films in the heart of Old Town which is also the home of the Hasting Old Town Hall Museum which gives good background information on the community. A bit of the bizarre is found in the communities huts which had the original purpose of drying fishing nets. Various sizes and shapes and a lack of uniformity is seen amongst these tiny unique structures. Visitors seeking nothing more than a pint and the charming environment of a quiet local hangout can find several pubs along the seafront dating back to the early 1700’s.

Things to do in Hastings, East Sussex

Hastings allows its guests to enter medieval times and the seaside landscape of Hastings Castle. Complete with ruins of a chapel arch, scattered walls, and a dungeon open to the public, this castle demonstrates a turbulent history with original construction in the 1060’s, renovation in the 1200’s, and attack during WWII. Scattered remains exist however much of this castles remains have landed in the ocean. Structurally superior to Hastings Castle, Bodiam Castle in Rother Valley served its original purpose of halting French attack in the late 1380’s. This impressive fortresses construction is superior to all others in England with its moat and opulent living quarters.

Entertainment abounds in this seaside community with the community’s aquarium, Underwater World, and its vast array of sharks and species of marine life, the Fishmarket with its museum, and Hastings Sea Life Center, and spectacular exhibits of dinosaurs and a nice collection of paintings and china within the Hastings Museum and art gallery.

                                Perfect!

We really enjoyed our stay here. The gardens and accommodation are immaculate and the owners very welcoming. The views from the nearby beach are stunning and although there are other cottages sharing the same area we really appreciated the privacy. The onsite facilities (swimming pool and hot tub) were lovely, and the cottage has everything you could possibly need to make your stay easy. Would definitely stay again.

                                Clean & Very Comfortable

                                5 of 5
The site itself was very easy to find. A satnav helped but was not essential. The mobile home is in a very quiet, private part of the excellent Combe Haven site. Perfect for us, even with a baby in a pushchair, but perhaps not ideal - given a relatively short uphill walk to the main site complex - for the elderly/infirm. The home itself sleeps eight and the 'living' area was spacious, particularly for four and the baby. Clean and pretty well fully equipped - our only minor suggestion is that a shower mat could be provided or clients could be advised to bring one - the home provided everything we expected and required. The home's 'finish' is what it is. Newish, bright, well maintained and with clean 'lines', although not de luxe. The burglar alarm is very straightforward to use, as is the cooker and (gas) fire. [ NOTE FOR SITE/OWNER : the burglar alarm was set at 'OFF' when we arrived.] The staff at Reception were uniformly helpful and very welcoming/pleasant. There were no 'issues' with either the home or the site which required any report to or action by the staff, but we are sure they would have responded helpfully if necessary. (There is little to go wrong - and nothing did go wrong - with the home but useful contact numbers are provided by the owner.) Probably best to think about 'things to do on holiday' before arriving as there is no 'pack' provided BUT we're sure (again) that Reception would assist if asked. The site facilities are excellent, although on a short break we only used the swimming pool, the 'arcade' and the Spar shop on site. The latter is not 'cheap' but does not price exhorbitantly......and we found it well stocked for 'bits and pieces', as well as very convenient.

                                Gorgeous period cottage

                                5 of 5
We are a couple with a 14 month old. Cot and high chair was provided. Cosy and characterful cottage with everything you need for a weekend away or longer! Location is perfect, just near to the old town with a lovely coffee shop opposite. Would highly recommend and we'd definitely stay again.
