North Devon – Hartland - Experience "The Hartland Peninsula"

Unspoilt coastline... Hidden beaches... Awesome waterfalls... Wooded valleys... Nature reserves... Outstanding countryside... Uninterrupted cliff tops... Dramatic scenery... Area of outstanding natural beauty...

Traversed by the breathtaking South West Coastal Path the Hartland Peninsula is a constant source of inspiration, a place to find peace and tranquillity yet close to many popular destinations.

Hartland village was one of the largest royal manors in the Saxon time of King Alfred.

Today the village still preserves an individual character, encouraged by an active year long community which historically lives off the land and the sea. Nowadays it is a thriving community with artists and crafts people.

Close by, Hartland Quay; one of the most spectacular coastal scenery and geology in North West Europe, and of course, Hartland Point; one of the boldest headlands on the English Coast standing 350 feet above the sea!

The famous “Cathedral of North Devon” St Nectan’s church also lies on the peninsula.

For those of you who wish to venture a little further afield, the renowned Village of Clovelly is worth exploration. Here fascinating history, wonderful walks, traditional crafts and of course the famous Clovelly donkeys await you...

Nature lovers will be inspired by “ Beautiful Lundy Island” a precious jewel lying 12 miles off shore where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Bristol Channel with nothing between it and America.

Around the South West coastline there are numerous opportunities for surfing, sailing, cycling, swimming and for those memorable walks...

North Devon’s lush pastures and rugged coastlines produce some of the tastiest food and drink, their magnificent flavours crafted by a gentle climate and artisan skills ensure a “gastronomic delight”

The Hartland Peninsula is well known for its unspoilt beauty and tranquillity. Exploring this part of the British Isles offers the ideal way to appreciate it, giving the opportunity to get into the heart of the landscape and really feel part of the environment...

It is really a place like no other! Wish you were here... Written by Guy Hammond – Owner of Property 71906 in Hartland, North Devon

I can honestly say this was one of the best rental properties we have holidayed in. Met by Martin on arrival to show us where everything was. Extremely well equipped, wi-if that actually works (which like it or not is pretty much the number one requirement of the kids) and access to a shared utility area with a washing machine, tumble dryer and extra freezer space. We arrived to flowers in the kitchen, homemade scones (with homemade jam and clotted cream), a bottle of wine (we were even asked our preference for red or white before arrival), a box of chocolates and some basics to get us going (including milk, tea, coffee, washing-up liquid, etc.). Cottage is located on a quiet and peaceful farm just outside the village of Hartland and is alongside two other rental cottages as well as the owner's house. Easy access to the Devon coastal path and some lesser known but really beautiful beaches (there is a picture of 9 beaches on the kitchen wall and we managed to get to 5 of them - need to go back at some point to do the other 4). Short drive to some of the more popular surfing beaches both in Devon and Cornwall. Lots of information in the cottage on where to eat, where to shop and places to visit (Nearby Clovelly is definitely to be recommended).

Nothing was missing; everything was clean and tidy. The corespondence before arriving was brilliant. There is really nothing bad to mention; even the Internet was very fast for my opinion. Maybe we`ll see us again one time...

We really enjoyed our stay in the Parlour, and it provided a comfortable, welcoming base for us to return to after our days out. The kitchen/dining/sitting area is a great space in which to eat and socialise at the end of the day, whist the bedrooms are large and comfortable, with the en-suites for each bedroom being very useful. The table football/small pool table was a bonus that proved to be popular with the children, as did the stash of board games they found in the cupboard in the hallway. Mark and Lorraine where both helpful and attentive when required, without being intrusive - great hosts. The area around the property is quite, but access to the main roads is relatively simple and quick, and there are plenty of small bays, coves, villages and hamlets to explore in the area. Sandy Mouth proved popular for body boarding, whilst Hartland Quay and Welcombe Mouth have fantastic rocky beaches great for walking or exploring. Despite the indifferent weather we had a great time in Hartland and at the Parlour and hope to return. Thanks again, David.
