Delight in quaint seaside charms with holiday cottages in Filey

Filey is a small seaside town on the North Yorkshire coast. Set between Bridlington and Scarborough, it was once a busy fishing port and more recently, has become famed as a tourist destination thanks to the large and mostly unspoiled beach, the wealth of accommodation and activities and the links to nearby Yorkshire attractions. Filey offers a warm welcome and an old fashioned charm which make it beloved by many returning guests every year.

HomeAway has a diverse range of holiday cottages in Filey suitable for visiting groups and families. Filey is an extremely family oriented destination and many of the cottages offer a cosy home-from-home welcome with delightful traditional exteriors and modern fully equipped interiors. Typical kitchens include dishwashers, laundry facilities and microwaves, whilst welcoming lounges have wi-fi and DVD players. Many of the cottages have access to swimming pools, and there are a number which welcome pets as well as children. Parking and garden facilities are offered throughout.

Whilst Filey offers a traditional seaside charm, England has a great deal more to offer visitors. Discover the world famous Salisbury Cathedral from Salisbury holiday apartments, which are conveniently located to offer access to Stonehenge, Wootton Bassett and nearby Devizes. Alternatively, holiday cottages on the Isle of Wight are the ideal destination for exploration, enjoyment and for taking advantage of the delightful climate.

Things to do

The Beach: Filey is shaped by its long and wide beach, which features on postcards and photographs galore. Winner of a Quality Coast Award and famed for luscious golden sand, it is the perfect place for relaxing or playing games. There is a RNLI lifeguard on duty, restricted areas for dogs, local amenities and facilities and some of the finest fish and chip shops in Yorkshire.

Walking: If the beach promotes relaxation, the cliff areas around Filey holiday bungalows are the ideal spot for a days walking. Affectionately known as the Filey Brigg, these 15 meter high sand and limestone formations are the ideal location for walking, kiting, and bird watching, with oystercatchers, redshanks and purple sandpipers all nesting locally.

Golf: The Filey Golf Club opened in 1897 and has been located in the north of the town ever since. In addition to a lengthy green and fairway, the club also boasts a nine hole short course, a brand new purpose built clubhouse and a warm welcome to visitors and regular members alike.

The Filey Museum: A small but plentiful museum in the heart of town, the Filey Museum is highly ranked on a number of visitors guides. With local history dating back to prehistoric times, the museum includes fossils, local artefacts, displays on the history of fishing and a number of interactive experiences for younger visitors.

Afternoon Tea: Filey is famed for good food and friendly service, so it’s no surprise to find that there are several highly recommended cafes and restaurants serving traditional afternoon tea, a particular must for international visitors. Many local favourites and are within easy access of holiday bungalows in Filey.

Weather

Filey enjoys a mild marine climate which helps to preserve the flora and fauna around the headland. Sea breezes can often make conditions seem slightly cooler than the actual air temperature but in general colder conditions are few and far between. August is the hottest month with an average temperature of 18⁰C whilst January tends to be the coldest with a low temperature of 3⁰C often experienced. During the winter months the town can experience up to 19 days of rain with an average of 40mm falling per month. However, although August typically experiences fewer days of rainfall, with only 14, it is classed as the wettest month with up to 58mm falling.

Travel

As might be expected in a busy seaside town, Filey holiday cottages are extremely accessible. Whilst the A64 provides a direct route into town from nearby York, there is also the A614 which leads directly into the town and is generally acknowledged to be a more pleasant and scenic drive. The town has its own train station, from which services in and out are frequent, and there are many bus and coach tours to take advantage of.

Beautiful, tastefully decorated well positioned property, very warm, and fully equipped

5 of 5
Beautiful, tastefully decorated, very modern & new, well positioned property.Full size washer/drier,full size dishwasher, fully equipped kitchen with all home from home utensils, crockery etc.If you want to be on the The Bay private beach for the day you may wish to consider taking a picnic, tea flasks & purchasing all your beach goods off site in filey town or local petrol station,as there are no refreshments/shops at the Bay beach to keep it clean & free from birds/seagulls/litter issues caused around food outlets which is how residents want it,quiet and clean. The property is very comfortable, well equipped with everything you need, just like home from home. The owners are easily contactable should you have any further questions & very responsive. As regular users of high quality self catering accommodation from Berwick to St Ives, Cornwall, just from purely a PRACTICAL poInt of view only (no disrespect to the owners as this was how the property was built) the shower head in this property is ceiling mounted over the bath so you may wish to consider a shower cap if it's not a hair wash day! or take a bath. The heating & water is super efficient, the bedrooms get very warm without heating on so you may want to consider a fan.The master bedroom has patio Juliette balcony doors only to let fresh air in & the twin bedroom is a sash window which you can leave open in the night. The pillows are extremely soft so you may consider taking your own if this is not suitable. Also in the twin room you would benefit from taking an extension so you can use your hair drier in front of the wall mirror behind the door or take a stand up mirror to use on top & the drawer unit. The property is very light in both rooms even with the curtains or blind closed more so in the main bedroom from the early morning sun and street lamp outside. The kitchen sash window is a two person job to lock the window, but you need it open to cook to avoid the smoke alarm going off but just ring the owner who can explains over the phone if you are needing to lock it. We have stayed at The Bay before and it is like a perfect model village & is exceptionally tasteful & clean. Many people have properties as their second homes so the village is very calm and quiet but maybe gets busier in school holiday periods. There are plenty of board games,DVDs,books in the understairs cupboard & you can have use of the onsite pool/gym. The wifi is super fast ideal for several users. This is a beautiful place.

Treasure of a find at a really reasonable price

5 of 5
Stayed for three nights with my husband, 3 year old daughter, 8 month old son and our cavalier king charles spaniel. A brilliant time was had by all. We had spent over 9 hours travelling up from south Wales to see family in Scarborough and it made such a difference having a lovely, comfortable place to stay. The facilities on site are excellent, and the flat itself was equipped with everything we needed for our stay. It was very helpful having a cot as saved us packing ours (our car was bursting as it was!). The flat was clean and well presented - one of the sofas had a few signs of wear but that didn't make it any less comfortable. Plenty of crockery for the four of us and nice comfortable beds. We are delighted to have found somewhere that we can stay now on our annual trip to the area and will definitely be back. Thank you so much for your hospitality.
