Make a holiday cottage in Egloskerry your home away from home

An escape to the quaint village of Egloskerry in East Cornwall means taking advantage of the bucolic countryside. Unlike other vacation spots that claim to be a getaway but are, in reality, thronged with tourists, Egloskerry sits on 3,500 acres but has a population of just 375 people. It is close enough to large towns and to the glorious Cornish coast to not suffer isolation; and with a car, holidaymakers can enjoy a fabulous break.

Holiday cottages in Egloskerry provide the perfect base from which to smell the roses. These homes can sleep anywhere from two to seven people, so they’re perfect for holidays of all sorts; anything from a romantic getaway to a jolly family trip. There are pet friendly units available too, so no member of the family has to stay behind. The only thing better than a break that brings peace of mind is when it offers great value, too. Egloskerry holiday homes can be £200 cheaper per week than surrounding areas, like the surfing hotspot of Bude, leaving plenty of change to enjoy other activities. Located just five miles from Launceston, the gateway to Cornwall isn't far. Of course, with amenities like Blu-ray players, fenced ponds and walled gardens, travellers may not want to venture from their Egloskerry holiday homes at all!

Things to do

-Hiking: Lydford Gorge boasts gorgeous scenery, and lush views. This natural playground is a short 15-minute drive from Egloskerry and is family friendly, with several trails that young children can handle. Prime hiking country amid gorgeous scenery is within a short distance in the Dartmoor National Park.

-Historical attractions: At the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape, visitors witness what was formerly the world’s largest mining operation. See why UNESCO designated this a World Heritage site, and how such an unassuming place could have such an impact on world developments.

-Beaches: Numerous beaches are within a short drive of holiday cottages in Egloskerry. Millook Haven Beach is an interesting place much beloved by geologists while at Bude, the beach waters are best suited for knowledgeable surfers, but anyone can enjoy the view.

-Family attractions: Lawrence House in the nearby village of the same name is sure to satisfy a traveller’s historical yearnings. There are three floors to explore in this structure built in 1753, with a play room for children and historical costumes on display.

-Tintagel Castle will lure visitors out to the Cornwall coast. After a short 15-mile drive, explorers are rewarded with the birthplace of King Arthur. Those willing to climb some tricky cliffs and watch out for strong winds will be treated to a spectacular lookout. In Tintagel village, visitors can learn more about King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.

Amazing for young children

5 of 5
We arrived in Cornwall earlier than expected and called Georgina who was very accommodating and let us have the keys 2 hours early. When we arrived at the house the children were very excited to discover all the pirate toys and that they had been left a gift each. We also received a lovely welcome pack of sparkling wine and goodies. The house is lovely and has everything you could possibly need for a home away from home. The children loved the pirate themed bedroom and enjoyed spending time in the outside 'smugglers den' play house. There is a local beach which is apx 10-15 min walk through the fields, although we choose to drive to Polzeath most days (20-30 min drive). Tintagel is very close and handy for take away fish and chips! I would definitely recommend staying here, especially if you have children under 10.
