East Prawle is a small village in Kingsbridge, Devon built around a central green. It has two very good public houses and the Piglet Stores, which is a small shop and tearoom, the Grunter's Café that sells delicious home made cakes and bread. There is a variety of farm holidays and self-catering accommodation available in farm barn annexes and cottages. Many of the names of the holiday cottages depict the nature of this beautiful farming village by the sea, such as Foss, Sea Rocket Barn, Threshing and Windfall.

If you are used to buying your milk from the supermarket, a milkman may not be a common sight to you, but when you holiday in a cottage in East Prawle you can arrange for Maynes Dairies to deliver to the doorstep of your holiday accommodation on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

If the reason for choosing a self catering cottage is so that you can cook for yourself and sample the famous local produce, then you will not be disappointed, as the local butcher, Hannaford's will also deliver fresh meat on Wednesdays and Saturdays. All cottages in East Prawle are close to one of the areas beaches. Moorsands is the most secluded, Macely has the finest sand, Mattiscom interesting rocks, Lannacombe excellent surfing and rock climbing and Horseley has the most interesting flora and fauna. Gara is a pleasant beach to take a walk or have a cream tea and drink at the Gara Rock hotel and Mill Bay is the safest for toddlers and small children.

Things to do whilst on holiday in East Prawle

When you feel like a change from swimming, lazing on the beach or fishing for your supper, there is sailing at Salcombe, the Dart Valley Railway, as well as the Star Point lighthouse, castles and country houses to be explored.

The Pigs Nose Inn is winner of Devon Life's, "Best Country Pub in Devon 2009". It overlooks the village green and the sea and is the most southerly pub in Devon. As it dates back over five centuries with a history as a smugglers inn, traditions are upheld by serving real ale straight from the barrel together with a scrumptious menu. Live music events are held in the adjoining hall.

For the days not suited to the beach, the weathers on the cool side or when you just want to stay in, you will find that many country or self catering fishermen's cottages have log burners and comfortable sofa's. Alternatively you can put on some warm clothing and drive to Dartmoor, which is a great walking area.

Nearby Sorley Tunnels, a two hundred acre working and adventure farm has horse riding, craft workshops, an old rail track with a half-mile long tunnel, an adventure play area and scenic walks.

Excellent property ideally located in the South Hams...

We were very happy with the property. Just the right size for us (family of three) with all the amenities we needed. It was perfectly situated in a valley which meant it was very quiet.....Just what we wanted. You could get anywhere in the South Hams within 30 mins or so and and access to the local beaches is easy. Should we returns to the South Hams we would stay here again. Both Rachel and Sam have been extremely accommodating and helpful.
