Set in wonderfully quiet contryside just 8 miles from the coast of North Cornwall is Davidstow, which has an undeniable charm and an air of unrivalled peace. Visitors flock to self catering Davidstow cottages from across the UK and Europe as it offers a rare combination of proximity to the beach, yet peace from the tourist crowds which often haunt much of Cornwall during the summer months. The village is almost impossibly charming, and offrs the ideal place in which to escape the hectic pace of everyday life. Old world charm immediately appeals to anyone seeking the restful nature of a small inland community with quick access to the coastline of North Cornwall.

Places to holiday in Davidstow, Cornwall

This community is rich in history and beautiful natural areas. The central location of self catering Davidstow cottages provides a magnificent place from which to explore the rest of North Cornwall, and the many attractions from Port Issac to Polzeath Beach. Cornwall's rich and unique history is easily explored from a self catering Davidstow cottage, with ancient ruins, and medieval churches adorning the otherwise green countryside, and offering some fascination restbites on walks and rides from the vilalge.

Several outdoor areas are in close proximity to Davidstow. Visitors find a unique blend of outdoor areas associated with the community’s proximity to Bodmin Moor while finding equal proximity to coastal waters in communities a few minutes away. Areas like Port Isaac allow one to witness the daily work of fisherman on the harbor or sit on beaches which are great for a picnic. There are also a great selection of little shops and local art galleries, as well as traditional pubs in which to loose yourself for a few hours.

Things to do in Davidstow, Cornwall

Unexpected areas in this village include the remains of a WWII training facility, used by American military personnel, leading up to D-Day. This area is used by small aircraft and a few buildings exist from its military heyday during the 1940’s. Indepth information on the area further educates visitors in the Davidstow Airfield and Cornwall War Museum. Interesting exhibits on the Royal Navy and Army Civilian Services give good perspective on the areas military presence.

Sitting amongst the bogs on the west side of St Kitts Hill is St David’s Church which was constructed in the 1200’s and restored in the mid 1500’s and 1800’s. This amazing piece of community history has beautiful vaulted ceilings and stained glass. Ancient Rough Tor is at the top of a steep hill, requiring a hike to the top and is the remains of what is believed to be a settlement dating back to the Bronze Age. A strenuous walk to the top of a steep hill brings visitors to amazing piles of stones and areas which appear to be the foundations of the areas ancient inhabitants. In addition, a grave is located in the same area which marks the murder of a local woman in the 1800’s.

Summer months become warmer than areas which receive the benefit of a location directly on the coast. The community’s location which lies on the edge of Bodmin Moor gives the area what some consider a unique “micro climate,” which makes predictability of weather difficult. Temperatures are generally moderate.

Beautiful cottage and setting...our favourite Cornwall cottage!

5 of 5
This is our third visit to Frogapits, one being our honeymoon, so I think that says it all! The setting of the cottage is simply beautiful, with the stream running through the garden. The cottage itself is full of character, comfy and homely. We instantly relax when we arrive here. It has everything you need, complete with a wood burning stove in the sitting room and one in the kitchen. It is so close to the village centre and harbour but you would never know it! Walking to the coast path takes a few minutes and Boscastle is just beautiful. We already have another holiday booked here with more to follow. This is a beautiful place to stay and the owners are lovely! Thank you for another fantastic stay!
