Make a holiday cottage in Cornworthy your home away from home

There is hardly a better way to get away from city life than by taking a holiday in the Southwest. Cornworthy is everything holidaymakers expect of rural England. Overlooking the River Dart with pretty valley views, Cornworthy is peaceful but not too remote. This small village is close to other popular holiday locations like Paignton, Dartmouth and Buckfastleigh. The area offers a variety of activities for both adults and children, and visitors get to enjoy both river and seashore activities. What's more, finding Cornworthy holiday cottages for a family or couple is made easy with HomeAway.

Holiday cottages in Cornworthy allow breaks to be filled with many diverse activities, from sunbathing to skiing, and from steam trains to museum visits. There are cottages with coastal or countryside views, and visitors are always pleased to know that the selection of tastefully fitted cottages on offer have Wi-Fi and/or allow pets. Prices start from just £255 per week, meaning Cornworthy holiday homes also offer great value for money. Typically sleeping between two and eight people, there's a wide selection on offer when compared to nearby holidays homes in Buckfastleigh.

Things to do

-Beaches: Cornworthy visitors tend to use the Blue Flag beach, Blackpool Sands, in Dartmouth just five miles away. A sandy, crescent-shaped beach patrolled by lifeguards, it's here that swimming, snorkelling, surfing, boogie boarding, kayaking and water-skiing can be enjoyed. From May, sand-pits are available, and from July, bathing rafts. There are disabled facilities and for comfort there are cafés, shops, showers and toilets. There’s also a 100-year-old ‘secret’ garden to be explored.

-Outdoor activities: Besides the beach, Cornworthy rental cottages allow visitors to enjoy other outdoor activities. There is an excellent system of footpaths for exploring the countryside. The Dart Valley Trail runs straight across the village and along meadows and woodland. There’s golf five miles away at the Dartmouth Golf & Country Club and horse riding at Stayerton Village is just ten miles distant.

-Family attractions: The Seashore Centre at Paignton is billed as ""a rock pool safari for the whole family"". There are interactive exhibits, seawater tanks filled with marine life and a video microscope to examine discoveries. Also close to Cornworthy is the Torquay Alpine Ski School at Kingskerswell. Skiing and snowboarding sessions are available for under-16s but there's instruction for all levels including beginners. It is necessary to book in advance.

-Museums: A museum that keeps the interest of all age groups is the South Devon Railway at Buckfastleigh. From here, a steam train begins a seven-mile journey to Totnes through a beautiful river valley and the rolling hills of Devon. There is a railway museum, picnic area, garden and play area.

-Food and drink: Even with the convenience of self-catering holiday homes in Cornworthy, it is a pleasure to mix with visitors and locals when eating out. The Hunter’s Lodge Inn is the heart of the village with excellent pub grub and ales. The Durant Arms offers fine dining in Ashprington and there are bustling bistros and cafés catering to visitors in holiday homes in Totnes and the surrounding area.

Absolutely perfect!

5 of 5
This is such a beautiful place to stay. We found the house impeccably clean and it had everything we could possibly want. The kitchen is very well equipped; the outside area superb (definitely recommend sitting out there for breakfast!); the beds are very comfortable (loved the lighthouse lamp in the second bedroom) and we loved the layout of the open hallway upstairs. The owners are very thoughtful and even left a bottle of wine for us upon arrival. Loved sitting in the rocking chair by the window, gazing out at the lovely view and enjoying the peace and quiet. The location is great too - very convenient for Bantham beach and also Kingsbridge and (my favourite) Salcombe. I would not hesitate to recommend this barn as a great place to stay in Devon. Many thanks to the owners for making our stay so special.

Perfect Paignton

5 of 5
We are regular visitors to Torbay, staying at many similar properties to this on different sites. This lodge was perfect for us, taking our pet dog along with us, the decking was secure for letting the dog roam outside while we used the hot tub. Direct easy access to the open field for walking the dog was very convenient too. The lodge is modern with all appliances you could need, being included. The site is just outside Paignton, with easy access to Torquay, Goodrington, Dartmouth, Brixham and Totnes. It also has a really good Pub/Restaurant and fitness facility. The owner was really helpful all through booking and whilst staying at the lodge. We will definitely return to this lodge, and will recommend this lodge to our friends.
