Walking: One of the most obvious reasons for visiting the Lake District is to take advantage of the many opportunities for walking. For beginners, there are a number of gentle and flatter walks, including those around Coniston Water, whilst those with a little more experience might like to try the Old Man of Coniston which peaks at 2635ft, making it the highest hill in the county.
The Water: Coniston Water is the third largest in the Lake District and has a surface area of 1.9 square miles. Swimming is permitted in all areas of the lake but caution is advised due to boat traffic.

Travel
