A cosy home from home in a perfect location for visiting the Peak District.

4 of 5
My partner and I stayed at Alders Cottage from 2nd to 12th July 2018 and absolutely loved it. The cottage itself was the perfect size for the two of us; it was cosy and homely, had all of the essentials and was very clean. We loved the patio and the lovely views of the sheep and fields, and it was a bonus to have an off-road parking space round the back of the property. Our only small quibble would be that, as the bathroom is a bit like a wet room (no shower cubicle, just a tray and a glass panel) and the water pressure is high, the floor gets rather wet and it would be handy to have a mop. The cottage is also the perfect base for visiting so many places in the Peak District and we visited as many as possible, including Chatsworth House, Buxton, Matlock, Matlock Bath and the Heights of Abraham, Ilam and Dovedale, all within a forty-minute drive. It was lovely to come back to this cottage after busy day of walking and sightseeing. Alton itself is also a lovely little village and we highly recommend The Bulls Head pub which is just a minute's walk from the cottage.

Lovely house in a great location

5 of 5
The garden was beautiful and there were facilities to play football (a goal and ball). The canal passed by the end of the garden - a very beautiful setting. South facing garden. The house was extremely well resourced: general equipment (hoover, dishwasher etc); spares eg plastic bin bags, toilet paper, soap dispenser etc. Large bedrooms with good furniture to store clothes. Comfortable beds and comfortable seating in the living room. Lots of information about places to see and what to do. Excellent media arrangements. Clear instructions about what to do during and at the end of the stay eg about recycling, waste disposal etc. The kitchen was roomy and extremely wee equipped eg cutlery, glasses, cups/mugs, pans etc. Finally, very well situated to explore the area, whether on foot or by car
