Carlyon Bay is a delightful sandy beach resort close to St Austell on the south coast of Cornwall. It has a pleasant beach suitable for families and there is often live entertainment in the evenings. The surrounding area was once dependant upon the tin mining industry and fishing. The nearest town is St Austell and it has a main street of small shops, supermarkets, banks and cafés. The St Austell Brewery can be toured and it produces cask ales for the local pubs.

The area is well known for its small fishing harbours and whitewashed cottages in the rural villages. It is a beautiful area for walking, with high banks full of wild flowers lining the winding lanes. The South West coastal path provides many walks with sea views, although it can be hilly and strenuous in places.

Spacious house in beautiful location overlooking the sea and within a 10 minute walk of Mevagisseyy

5 of 5
A beautifully appointed, spacious house enjoying stunning sea views from the garden was the perfect location for the eight of us from Sidcup Art Club in Kent on our painting holiday in Mevagissey. Four spacious double rooms (we used the cinema room as a bedroom) and a single bed in the children's room provided us with plenty of private space as well as the large lounge, dining, covered and open balconies with views towards the sea provided ample communal living. The large parking area was priceless as we did not have to concern ourselves with parking issues during our stay. Everything was provided for every eventuality.....a wonderful house for a three generation family. Teenagers, families and film buffs will love the extensively equiipped cinema room. Mevagissey itself was delightful, and was a ten minute walk along the coastal path or down the roads (best not to mention the climb back, but that got easier as we got used to it!) The coastal path and secluded beach (access for the agile and sure-footed) provided walking opportunities to those of us who did not paint. We made good use of the Tea on the Quay where Cornish pasties and fresh wholesome food were freely available, and run by a delightful family who made us feel very welcome and even reserved us a table for lunch on our last day and had fresh catch of the day when eating out at the Ship Inn and the Harbour which we did every night of our stay. We visited The Lost Gardens of Heligan as a group and took many photos for future paintings. We painted in Mevagissey by the quay most days and were made most welcome by local fisherman and visiting tourists alike. Our painting holiday could not have gone better, the weather was super kind to us, glorious blue skies for five whole days and a beautiful house to enjoy and come back to after a day's painting.

Fantastic place.

The Beech Hut is tucked away in a gorgeous place in North Cornwall. Leonie welcomed us with a wonderful lit wood burner and the smell of freshly baked bread. There was a small hamper full of essentials like coffee tea sugar etc. Very thoughtful . The Hut is fully equipped with everything you need to enjoy your holiday. The Hut is so cosy you really don't want to leave, but you must explore the area. Cornwall is so diverse, the people are so friendly. We would recommend this property to stay. But we won't be telling too many people incase we can't get the weeks we want to stay here !
