Make A Holiday Rental Cottage in Braithwaite, Cumbria, Your Home Away From Home

The village of Braithwaite is situated at the northern edge of The Lake District National Park, in the county of Cumbria, in the far north-west of England. You should find that spending your holidays in Braithwaite is particularly ideal as you have all you could wish for in this part of the world on your very own doorstep. There are a myriad activities to keep you busy throughout your stay; as well as numerous picturesque and interesting places to visit. If you think the idea of spending some time in a cosy and well-appointed self catering cottage is up your street, Braithwaite will prove to be an excellent choice for you.

Things to Do on Holiday in Braithwaite, Cumbria

Most people head to The Lake District in order to be able to get out and about and really explore this wilderness of England and this will be entirely possible on your holidays in Braithwaite. To start with the tamer and more leisurely choices of activities that are widely available in the area, you have the likes of swimming, tennis, nature walking and there are brilliant chances to sight ospreys in the lakes if you are into ornithology. For those looking for more action, or even adrenaline-pumping fun, you may choose to participate in activities such as abseiling, paragliding, white-water rafting and canoeing.

Places to Visit on Holiday in Braithwaite, Cumbria

Whilst spending your holidays in Braithwaite, you really should try and explore more of the Lake District. You will be ideally placed close enough to all of the main lakes in the area - but it is usually Lake Windermere that the majority of tourists come to the area to visit. After all, this is the largest lake in all of England. This is also where you will find the majority of the facilities for tourists - with the village of Bowness proving to be a particular draw. Other towns that should feature on your sightseeing list include Keswick, which is only a few miles to the east of Braithwaite, Penrith and Kendal. As you will be based so close to the Scottish border, you may even fancy venturing a little farther up the M6 motorway and head into the beautiful region of Dumfries and Galloway.

Weather in Braithwaite, Cumbria

Visitors on their holidays in Braithwaite, and Cumbria as a whole, find that taking waterproof clothing is an absolute must. You see, the Lake District can easily receive well over 40 inches of rainfall per year; some higher spots will be even more than this - so do come prepared for heavy rainfall at any time of the year. Temperatures wise, the average during July will be around 19 degrees Celsius; and in January this is more likely to be around 6 or 7 degrees.

Travel to Braithwaite, Cumbria

If you decide to travel to your self catering accommodation in Braithwaite by car (which is by far the best way!), you will find that the village is actually very well connected. The M6 motorway is very close-by, as is the A66 which just bypasses the settlement. If you decide to fly to the area, the best option will probably prove to be Manchester Airport (MAN) which is a relatively short drive down the M6. It would definitely be advisable to arrange a hire car for collection from the airport to get you to your cottage in Braithwaite.

Superb modernised Cottage with outstanding views of Northern and Central fells

5 of 5
Where to start! This has to be a cottage with among the best views in the Lake District nestling under Skiddaw looking out over Derwent Water and Newlands valley with views extending to the fells overlooking Bassenthwaite. The cottage itself has been sensitively and tastefully renovated with an extension that provides a very well equipped kitchen and dining area and a comfortable living room. Upstairs are beautifully appointed bedrooms (2 double rooms and a combination room with a single and a bunk). The cottage was very clean and fresh herbs are growing outside next to the patio area. We visited with American relatives on their first trip to the Lakes and in every single way this cottage surpassed all our expectations and contributed to a fantastic experience of the Lake District. Damian (the owner) was extremely helpful and his knowledge of the Lake District shines through in his book and map collection.
