Make a holiday rental in Bath your home away from home

Easily one of the most beautiful towns in the whole of the UK, Bath is a very popular holiday destination for couples, families, and groups alike. The spa town on the River Avon is famous for its Georgian architecture and is full of fascinating historic sites, museums, and plenty of natural attractions. As alternatives to holiday homes in Bristol, yet still only 15 miles from the south-west’s busiest city, Bath is easy to reach and has lots to offer.

HomeAway has a wonderful selection of holiday apartments in Bath. Rentals start at under £300 per week and mostly range between one to three bedrooms. Some Bath holiday cottages are located right in the centre of town, close to popular attractions. Others are situated in more rural settings and are perfect for those wanting to explore the great outdoors. All holiday rentals offered by HomeAway are fully furnished to a high standard, and many also come with amenities such as access to tennis courts, BBQ equipment, and the opportunity to include the family pet in the travel party.

Things to do

-Historic sites: Bath Abbey is one of the most prominent buildings in Bath, and – with its Gothic revival facade – strikes a contrast between the rest of the architecture in town. Right next to the abbey are beautifully preserved Roman Baths. The popular tourist attraction is divided into four separate areas: the Sacred Spring, Roman Temple, Roman Bath House and a museum. Beyond that holidaymakers can take a stroll over to the Royal Crescent to see one of the best examples of Georgian architecture in the UK.

-Family attractions: Royal Victoria Park, which is within easy reach of the majority of Bath holiday rentals, is an excellent place to take children. The park is free to enter and offers plenty of play equipment as well as a skate park. Another fun attraction in the area is Bath City Farm. Kids can interact with farm animals, play, and take part in a variety of community events here.

-Outdoor activities: Bath is a popular take-off point for hot air balloon rides. Visitors can enjoy sunrise and sunset rides over the city. Themed rides with champagne are widely available and make for the perfect romantic gift. On the more extreme end of the spectrum, the 450-foot Cheddar Gorge is located a short drive from Bath, near the historic town of Axbridge. A network of caves can be found inside the gorge and tours are available. In addition to caving, visitors can also try rock climbing. Outdoors lovers and cavers might prefer holiday homes in Axbridge, if their main objective is extreme sports!

-Food and drink: Whether it’s afternoon tea or lunch in a gastro pub, visitors will find all kinds of dining options in Bath. The most famous restaurant in town is The Pump Room, which serves modern British fare as well as afternoon tea. For fine dining, holidaymakers can visit any one of three Michelin-starred restaurants in town. A weekly farmers' market held on Saturday mornings is a great place to sample fresh food made with local ingredients.

Weather in Bath

The most popular time to visit Bath is from May to October, when high temperatures exceed 15°C on average. With an average daily high of 22°C, July and August are the warmest months of the year. In the winter the weather cools down to 8°C in the day and 4°C at night. Rain is pretty common throughout the year, but more prevalent from October to January.

Travel to Bath

Bath enjoys convenient travel connections. Holidaymakers without a vehicle can take a train to Bath Spa station, located at the centre of town. Another option would be to fly into Bristol Airport, hire a car, and make the 20-mile drive to Bath. Drivers can take the M4 to the A46 to reach a holiday apartment in Bath.

Superb!

5 of 5
From quick and helpful communication at all times from the lovely hosts, Barry & Brenda, to the friendly welcome and beautiful property and surroundings… first class. I planned a weekend away as a surprise for my boyfriend's birthday. This is my first experience of HomeAway (or anything similar) and I have been very impressed. This property stood out on the website - great reviews of the location and the caring hosts. Any questions I had were helpfully answered within a short space of time. As for the Studio itself, we want to come back when the weather is better and when my bf doesn't have a sore back (bad timing!)! The Studio was lovely - cosy, light and airy - perfect for a February weekend of mixed weather. We particularly loved the underfloor heating downstairs and the cosy electric fire upstairs! Arriving to a fresh loaf in the kitchen, with jam, butter and milk in the fridge was wonderful. Thank you also for the decaf coffee option! The Studio is on two levels with a bed and sitting area with TV on the top level, and an open-plan kitchen area with shower room and toilet on the lower level. It is just a short walk down the garden steps from here to the Kennet & Avon Canal over the River Avon - a fantastic location! The scenery is stunning, from the Dundas Aqueduct to the beautiful Bath stone and colourful layers of trees, the birdsong and the tranquility of the waterside. The adjacent railtrack was interesting too and not at all off-putting sound-wise. We only saw a little of the area but would love to come back and explore more and use the bicycles on offer too. Even with my bf's back playing up, we managed a 4-mile walk along the canal to Bathampton where we enjoyed lunch at the canal-side pub, The George, before getting the bus back up (the bus stop is just a short distance from the property). We also walked the 15-20 minutes to the Wheelwrights Arms for dinner on the Saturday evening - lovely food and friendly staff - loved the addition of the candle on my bf's dessert! :) Thank you Barry & Brenda for sharing your property and making our stay so lovely - hopefully we'll visit again soon in the not too distant future! x

Beautiful, immaculate and very homely gem

5 of 5
Myself and my friend spent a two night spa break in Bath at Georgian House. From initial booking through the staying, Rachel (the apartment owner) couldn't have been more helpful. Thorough details of how to access the property were provided along with her contact numbers should we have had any problems. The apartment is gorgeous and felt very "Bridget Jones". Two bedroom, two bathrooms, lovely kitchen and lounge. Absolutely wonderful and just a short walk into Bath itself. We hoped to rebook but the dates we were hoping for were booked up. Would totally recommend Rachel and her apartment. We will be back! x

Great New Years Get Away

5 of 5
We had a lovely 2 night stay over new year, the little house is truly unique. The house was incredibly clean when we arrived and everything was as we had imagined. A little hard to find in the dark, we would definitely advise arriving in the light. The kitchen was well equipped for small meals, it's a shame there's not a proper oven (we found the microwave/oven a little temperamental). But everything else was clean and worked as expected. The underfloor heating was a true luxury and made a massive difference as the weather was cold and wet. The village of Mells is very quaint and makes a perfect base for anyone who enjoys walking. The communication from the owner could not be faulted, she answered all our questions within 24 hours and messaged us a few days before our visit to explain how to find the house. We will hopefully be returning for a summer visit
