  • Great pool, pretty lodge.

The Lodge itself is very pretty and set in a very idyllic and beautiful spot. The swimming pool is lovely and warm, and very large for a private pool. We all loved swimming in it, especially when the weather wasn't so kind! In nice weather we enjoyed lovely walks down to Heddon's Mouth, and the Hunters Inn which were an easy walk away for relatively fit people! Also nearby were Lynton and Lynmouth, and Exmoor zoo, plus great beaches at Woolacombe and Croyde - all well worth a visit. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay but there are a few minor things which could be done to improve the experience of staying in the lodge itself. The bathrooms were a bit tired, the bed in the main bedroom was uncomfortable, as was the sofa bed in the sitting room. Towels could be provided (even if just bath towels), and small things were missing from the kitchen, like a cheese grater, which although not major, was an annoyance! Also of difficulty was the entrance into the driveway, which is too narrow on such a tight bend. Not sure if anything could be done about that, but a bit of warning would have been good! I'm not sure how very large cars would get in! A lovely touch was the prosecco on ice when we arrived, and generally we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Also a nice touch was the phone call from the housekeeper after we had arrived to make sure everything was okay. Basically though, I think you're paying for the pool, rather than a luxurious place to say. Comfortable yes, but not high end luxury if that's what you're after. We would recommend this as a quiet retreat for a relaxing holiday with family or friends, Just be prepared for the VERY narrow lanes and narrow driveway entrance!

  • Beautifully restored spacious cottage . Perfectly situated for exploring North Devon coastline .
    5 of 5

I always wanted to return to North Devon after spending many happy holidays there as a child . I arranged a 5 day break at the cottage meeting up with close friends from Norwich and Germany. I spent many hours trying to find a property that would be suitable for 3 generations and close to all my favourite places to visit . The cottage was simply perfect . 4 good sized bedrooms and 3 bathrooms . Clare has spent a lot of time and effort creating a spacious country farmhouse cottage with a cosy homely feel with everything you need for a fabulous stay . The children - big and small - had great fun playing table tennis and table football in the conservatory. The back and front gardens are very private, the garden at the rear of the cottage is large enough to enjoy a lovely b b q . It also extends to the side where there is a super play area and field for a game of football . Views are stunning . With in a few miles you are well in to the Exmoor National Park . We headed to Woolacombe , Linton and Lynmouth for a trip on the railway and ilfracombe . We also enjoyed a days trip to Bude in North Cornwall stopping off to see the beautiful fishing village of Clovelly . The high light for me was the tunnel beaches in Ilfracome .. a small entrance fee but worth every penny . Clare was extremely helpful in making our stay go as smoothly as possible . Thank you once again we had a really lovely few days Grace and friends
