  • A little piece of heaven!

Review for the Old Barn at Spurway, Oakford, Nr Tiverton. We were warmly welcomed by John and Jane on our arrival to this delightful little barn. Situated in a valley down a peaceful lane, it was a little piece of heaven and quieter than quiet. Being in Mid Devon it is conveniently placed for both the north and south coasts and everywhere in between. The edge of Exmoor is not far away with its wide variety of stunning landscapes and wildlife. We went to Winsford Hill walking along the hillsides watching swallows and buzzards flying below us. Tarr Steps are in a very beautiful area with a circular walk along the River Barle. Dunster Castle is a lovely place to visit, pretty gardens, lots of history and take a walk along the river to the water mill as well. Knightshayes Court is closer to home with local history, scenic walks and a huge walled kitchen garden full of every day and heritage fruit and vegetables. RHS Rosemoor gardens were great to visit and also in Torrington I would highly recommend taking a factory tour of the Dartington Crystal factory – fascinating! Should you want to dine out then Giovanni’s in Barnstable was very nice and The Ganges in Tiverton did a good curry too. The barn is beautifully decorated and very comfortable. I had the best sleep in a long time waking late to the sound of birds and the stream. No cars or planes – bliss. It was also fully equipped with all your home from home needs. If you love peace and quiet and need to unwind, this place is just for you. It is out of the way but still close enough to places for a little bit of adventure. We will definitely be going back and would not hesitate to recommend this lovely retreat to others. It is perfect. Thank you so much. Darren and Lorna Cannon
