Take in breathtaking scenery with holiday cottages in Bamburgh

Bamburgh is a large village on the Northumberland coast. It faces out to the world famous Farne Islands and is characterised by the imposing Bamburgh Castle which sits on the cliffs above the town. Steeped in history and notable for hosting the launch of the world’s first ever lifeboat, Bamburgh is a popular destination for tourists who enjoy the dramatic coastline, the delightful beach and the many historical buildings.

HomeAway have a diverse selection of holiday cottages in Bamburgh available to visiting groups of all sizes. From cosy cottages suitable for couples, to much larger accommodation for groups of eight or more, the exterior of many of these holiday cottages may appear traditional and quaint but the interiors are sleek and modern. Well equipped kitchens containing dishwashers, laundry facilities and utensils are standard, whilst internet connection, DVD players and satellite access also feature. Families are welcomed with facilities for children and pets in many cottages. Gardens and on-site parking is also widely available.

Whilst Bamburgh impresses with its unique blend of historical interest and beach lovers paradise, there is much to see and do in England. Holiday cottages in Tyne and Wear are the ideal location for anglers, as well as those looking to take advantage of the famed shopping in Newcastle upon Tyne. Meanwhile, guests can discover the Robin Hood legends of Sherwood Forest with holiday cottages in Nottinghamshire from which there is also a host of shopping, leisure and golfing facilities to be enjoyed.

Things to do

The Beach: There are few beaches in England with as much history or views as breathtaking as those from Bamburgh Castle Beach. At one end is the famed castle of the same name, whilst looking out to sea, one can appreciate the Farne Islands in the distance. The beach itself comprises of miles of sandy dunes and has achieved Blue Flag status since 2005. It remains a favourite with visitors to holiday cottages in Bamburgh and also has a commendation from the Marine Conservation Society.

Bamburgh Castle: Originally built around an existing settlement in 1095 by the Normans, the imposing but ultimately beautiful castle has been in the ownership of the Armstrong Family since 1894 and has been completely restored. It now stands as a place of historic interest and a wedding and corporate events location. It has also been featured in a number of films including Elizabeth, Robin Hood and Macbeth.

Golf: The famed Bamburgh Castle Golf Club is often recognised as being one of the most visually attractive courses in England. Sitting on the cliffs overlooking Lindisfarne, the headlands and, of course, the castle, the course boasts 18 holes and has been welcoming golfers since 1904. Visitors are welcome and although some Saturdays are fully booked, many weekdays remain open for peaceful play.

Grace Darling RNLI Museum: In 1838, local woman Grace Darling achieved fame and notoriety for her bravery during a treacherous storm. She and her father rowed out to sea to help the survivors of the wrecked SS Forfarshire. She has been heralded as a heroine ever since and the Royal National Lifeboat Institution Museum takes her name as a symbol of her courageous actions. Her story, along with that of the first lifeboat is on display in this interactive museum tour.

Weather

As with many coastal locations, holiday apartments in Bamburgh experience a higher frequency of rainy days than many inland town centres. Autumn and winter are traditionally the wetter seasons with between 20 and 25 days of rain on average per month and up to 88mm falling within a 30 day period. Between February and July are the drier months where between 40 and 60mm is more common. During the winter months, the sea breeze can make the temperatures of between 1 and 7⁰C seem far cooler, although heavy snow and frost is rare. However, in summer, temperatures have been known to frequently rise to 18⁰C.

Travel

Bamburgh holiday apartments are extremely accessible. The town is a short drive (42 miles) away from Newcastle upon Tyne and the A1 runs from there to the main town centre. Alternatively, there is a frequent bus service connecting to major towns and the nearest train station is located at Chathill, some six miles away.

Pretty holiday cottage in a perfect location.

5 of 5
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this charming cottage. It was clean, comfortable and extremely well equipped with everything, plus more, that we could want. Bayside cottage is a few minutes walk from the most beautiful beach and only a couple of miles from Bamburgh. We would definitely recommend this property, and hope to return again soon.

Lovely house with a fantastic sea view.

We had a fantasy couple of weeks in this lovely house. It is set within a quiet village within walking distance of a pub, a couple of cafe’s and a shop. Large sandy beach only a 5 minute walk. The owners were very helpful and were at the end of the phone if we had any queries. Would highly recommend.
