Holiday cottages on Anglesey at bargain rates

Situated off of the coast of Wales, Anglesey is an idyllic island, the perfect place to plan your next holiday. There are several holiday cottages available in various locations across this Welsh island, so no matter which sites of interest beckon you, you’ll find comfortable accommodations nearby. What’s more, taking a holiday cottage in lieu of a hotel gives you more privacy, adding to the comfort of your trip to Anglesey.

In addition to added private space, holiday cottages on Anglesey are a wonderful choice because they come equipped with all of the amenities you enjoy at home. Having a veritable home away from home reduces stress, giving you more time to unwind from the stress of daily life at work. Worry less about where you’re staying and spend more of your holiday out doing the things you enjoy with your family and friends.

Anglesey: an island replete with natural beauty

Anglesey has 125 miles of coastline—all of which have been designated as Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty—that make this Welsh island the perfect holiday getaway. Add to that the stunning backdrop of the Snowdonia mountains, and you have the ideal setting for fun for the whole family—or for you and your partner on your next romantic trip together.

If you’re looking for some fun in the sun, try Lligwy Beach, a quaint, sandy paradise with a café for those who want the salty air without the sand between their toes. The café also boasts a broad selection of locally made ice cream, the perfect addition to a stroll along the beach.

The beach is dog friendly, so those who prefer to take their four-legged friends with them on holiday can rest assured that their pets are welcome. If you like to fish, then LLigwy Beach is also the place for you: head to the Llyn Blodyn Fishery, where you and your fellow anglers will enjoy a wonderful time any time of the year.

Invigorating nature reserves and local farmers’ products

If you want to be outdoors but aren’t keen on spending all of your time at the beach, then head to the Dingle Nature Reserve. The reserve is rich is flora and fauna. Butterflies and dragonflies, adders and lizards, fish, birds and eels abound in their natural habitat, and the various types of trees and flowers set the stage for a lovely day exploring what the world around us has to offer.

Booking your own holiday cottage on Anglesey means having access to a kitchen. And this is definitely an advantage: the Anglesey Farmers’ Market offers only the best in local products on the third Saturday of each month, providing you with the fresh ingredients you need to make delicious holiday meals. And many other markets provide local ingredients throughout the month, so no matter when you come to Anglesey, you’ll dine on fine local products.

Manmade beauty on Anglesey

But Anglesey has more to offer than just the stunning natural beauty of Wales. There are two bridges connecting the island to mainland Wales across the Menai Strait – the Menai Suspension Bridge and the Britannia Bridge – both of which are testaments to humankind’s engineering prowess. Or head to the Copper Kingdom, where you can delve into the island’s history in the copper industry. Those really wanting a hands-on experience can head to Parys Mountain, where they can explore a genuine 18thcentury copper mine. Or walk along Almwch Port to get a glimpse at another important player in the history of Anglesey.

Another manmade beauty is the Beaumaris Castle. Though unfinished, Beaumaris Castle is nevertheless a stunning masterpiece well worth a visit during your stay on Anglesey. Edward I started construction to emphasize his power in Wales, but construction never finished because of a lack of available funds. Still, walking the grounds and seeing the unfinished work of art is a must while on the island. Those with an interest in military history can head to the Plas Newydd Historic House. In addition to itself being a work of architectural beauty, this 18thcentury house is surrounded by breathtaking views and houses a military museum. There is also an exhibition dedicated to Rex Whistler, who painted in the area in the early 20thcentury.

A lighthouse to show the way and cars from the past

Another beloved point of interest on Anglesey is Ellins Tower. Set above the South Stack Cliffs and lighthouse, it provides a stunning view out across the Irish Sea. Bird lovers can also watch the colonies of birds that have settled here, and you may even be able to see dolphins and seals out at sea. A visit to the visitor centre yields a bevy of information regarding local history. What’s more, the visitor centre also has a café where you can sample more of the local culinary products.

If you love your vehicles, then head to the Tacla Taid Anglesey Transport and Agriculture Museum. The museum has a collection of various types of vehicles from as far back as the 1920s. And the museum directors have gone a step further, creating a 1940s village street that makes it easier to imagine what the world looked like when the cars in the collection were driven.

Something for the whole family

Sometimes it’s not easy to get out and see all the sites with the little ones in tow, but Anglesey offers a charming alternative. The Anglesey Model Village and Gardens is home to models of all of the most important and noteworthy landmarks on this Welsh island. Each model is built in a 1:12 scale, and there is a fully functional railway that adds to the ambience of the village and gardens. There is even a café as well as a play area for the kids and a picnic area where the whole family can enjoy the tranquility of this unique Anglesey site.

Those looking to feel the rush of the wind in their hair can head out on a speed boat with kids as young as four years old. The Anglesey Boat Trips are also an excellent way to discover wild life with your children. With the ability to take one-hour rides or to rent a boat for trips to a secluded beach, you have flexibility that allows you to fit this exciting part of the trip in wherever it best suits the schedule.

Another fun way to introduce the youngest members of your family to wild life is to head to the Anglesey Sea Zoo. Many different areas provide a different but equally educational and exciting experience, and you can talk to biologists and see feedings on a daily basis. Both the young and the old will enjoy the views of the shoreline and the distant Snowdonia mountains, as well as the locally made ice cream served at the award-winning café in the zoo.

Fantastic accommodations in flawless natural beauty

With so much natural beauty, interesting history, and stunning manmade structures, it is no wonder that Anglesey is a desired destination all year round. Take advantage of the numerous holiday cottages available on HomeAway so that both you and your family can make the most of your time on the island. Feel secure in the privacy of your own home before heading out to explore the villages that dot the island. Anglesey has long been visited by artists and writers who have sought inspiration in the hills and shorelines of the island, and you can have the same solace.

Many of the holiday cottages available on HomeAway are located apart from other buildings, giving you the space you need if you prefer to enjoy solitude. Take long leisurely walks in the countryside away from the hustle and bustle of day-to-day life or even from the quieter life on the island. Such idyllic holiday cottages are also ideal if you want to spend time bonding with the family or getting to know a new partner. Of course, should you decide to venture out, having a secluded cottage outside of the villages is no problem: though there is plenty of space to give you the privacy you want, it is also easy to get to everything on the island in no time at all. Anglesey is an island with history, an island for repose, an island where one can connect with our natural environment and enjoy everything nature has to offer. Book your holiday cottage on Anglesey and discover this magical island off the coast of Wales.

Stunning location and cottage

5 of 5
Absolutely gorgeous cottage. When the cottage is exactly as you'd want your home to be, you know you're onto a winner. I even had to ask Katie and Ben about where they'd got some of their things, the interior was so lovely (and they were happy to oblige!). A very friendly couple who even tolerated our rather amorous terrier. Not only is the cottage perfect, it's set in beautiful and stunning countryside. Newborough beach and nature reserve was such a find! We will definitely be back - thank you for our lovely stay.

Simply perfect! A stunning house in a breathtaking location. I wouldn't add or change anything!

As soon as we saw the view at Oonavara we knew we'd chosen the perfect place to celebrate a special 70th birthday...then we opened the big arched door - and ran around the house like excited children (I am 45!). Simply beautiful. The house is stylish, but makes you feel at home immediately - it has a cooks kitchen and as a family we love food. The house has everything you could need, but it's true pleasure is the simple things it provides. A glass of wine on the veranda enjoying the incredible view, beating your aunt and uncle at pool, scrambling across the rocks, looking for crabs while waving to your family on the patio, walking along the beech - spending quality time with the people you love! There was 13 of us, aged from 6 to 70 and I can say with confidence that every single one of us had the most magical time. It was So good I'm going to make a book using the photographs we all took as a keepsake. I hope we get the opportunity to return - but maybe for a week next time...
