We have just returned from staying at Orchard cottage for 2 nights over the weekend. Mark and Sharron where fab from the start and very helpful with any questions we had leading up to our stay. The cottage is at the end of a little private lane which makes you feel like your in the middle of nowhere, but only 10 mins by car away from Hexham, so you get the best of both worlds. The beds where very comfy and couldn’t fault the facilities. Even though there where 10 adults for the weekend in the cottage, we certainly never felt like we were on top of each other and cramped, there’s plenty of space for everybody. I would only have one piece of constructive feedback, which would be to have local taxi numbers included in the info pack in the cottage (if this is there my apologies I missed it). I would highly recommend this cottage to anybody who is looking for a beautiful county cottage, which is not far away from ‘civilisation’
Set in beautiful countryside and hills of the North Pennines, this property could not be situated better. It is more or less equidistant for the Tyne Tees region and the Lake District and the Borders area.
We visited Hadrian’s Wall, Vindolanda Roman excavations, Durham, Sunderland & Newcastle, Holy Island of Lindisfarne & Bamburgh Castle, Killhope Lead Mine, and Beamish open air museum, and we would recommend all of them.
The house is small but cosy, and has a lovely balcony to sit out at night watching the stars, feeling the fresh air , and having a glass or two.
The WiFi is a big plus and makes planning each day much easier.
There is a log burner, but we didn’t need it.
Slightly limited on kitchen space, especially for washing up, but the owners have made good use of the limited space.
Overall, we would be very happy to return, and we may well do so.
