Make a holiday rental property or villa in Dalyan – Dalaman, Turkey your home away from home

The Dalaman region of Mugla Province, Turkey is a region of outstanding natural beauty. In the past, people have only known as an entry point to Mugla through Dalaman Airport, but as more people get to see the region, its popularity has soared as a Turkish Aegean destination in itself.

Things to do on holiday in Dalyan – Dalaman, Turkey

It is hard to know where to start with the attractions of the Dalaman – Dalyan region, the nature, the history or the culture. All three are in abundance in the region, and I cannot imagine anyone arriving at a holiday rental property in Dalaman or Dalyan and being short of entertainment!

Throughout the hills, cliffs and inlets of this stretch of the Mugla coast are an amazing array of historical monuments and places of interest. Sitting on the banks of Lake Suluklu are the ruins of the ancient city of Kaunos, complete with a huge theatre, roman baths and a Roman temple. If you take the hiking paths along the Kapidag Peninsula, you can explore the largely unexcavated cities of Kyra, Lissia and Lydia, and the Lycian Rock Tombs are not to be missed either.

Walking and trekking through the spectacular countryside of the Dalaman region is a real treat for anyone who enjoys getting out into the great outdoors. There are many excellent routes throughout the area, taking in some of the finest viewpoints, oldest historical sites and wildest parts of countryside in Mugla. You can often spot evidence of Lycian, Byzantine and Carian settlements as well as a stunning array of birdlife. Those looking for a little adrenaline kick are in luck too. There is some wonderful white water rafting along the Dalaman River, with rapids ranging from grade 1 to 5. After a hard day in the countryside, the Dalyan Mudbaths are a magnificent, and quite unique, way to unwind.

There is even good shopping in the region. There are some excellent markets in many of the small towns and villages surrounding Dalaman and Dalyan, especially the Monday market in Koycegiz, the Saturday market in Dalyan and the Sunday market in Sarigerme.

Places to visit on holiday in Dalyan – Dalaman, Turkey

Dalyan is a remarkable destination. One of the last homes of the endangered Caretta Caretta turtle, Dalyan is both an attractive, thriving coastal resort, with fantastic beaches, especially the spit beach of Iztuzu, part of which is sectioned off as a breeding ground for the turtles. The town is steeped in history, with many monuments having survived centuries in Dalyan, Turkey. The Lycian Rock Tombs which watch over the town from their position high on a vertical rock face are simply stunning, and defiantly worth investigating from self catering holiday rental accommodation in the region.

The recent influx of cheap flights to Dalaman Airport has made the town amazingly accessible. There are new golf courses and a new marina being planned for the town, which is already a first class holiday resort. The many shops, restaurants and bars in Dalaman make it a wonderfully comfortable place to stay, and the surrounding historical sites, walking routes and sandy beaches mean you will want for nothing from a self catering Dalaman holiday rental.

When we landed we were picked up "as arranged by Kate" with a driver holding a card with our name on.We arrived at the villa at around 10.30pm so we couldn't really see the area. But entering the Villa we absolutely loved it. We are very curious when we arrive anywhere so we went for a walk. We went straight down the very steep hill using the steps on the left until the office then it was just a ramp to the road, at the bottom we turned right and walked just around the bend and there was a fork in the road, we decided to go left (wrong) we carried on for about 15 mins and then on the right we found the beginning of a street as we walked down we found a lovely bar Man of The North / Dolphin Bar we had a couple of drinks and then walked on past the bar we had been in and kept going passed various shops bars and restaurants and surprise surprise we came out at the fork in the road, yes we should have gone right not left at the fork. So it was a 10 min walk that we turned into 20mins. Anyway we walked back and to be honest when we were walking up the hill back to the Villa it was a killer, we are aged 56 and 60 and not very fit and found it really hard but we made it to the top, (the Villa is right before the hill goes flat at the top. Next morning we got up and opened the balcony door and WOW the walk was worth every puff! The views were amazing and the was a lovely breeze. We got ready and waked back to the village and went in the Supermarket opposite Paradise Restaurant and as soon as we said we were from the Royal Links Villas we were made to feel really welcome, Harry a lovely young man who owns the shop took us and all our shopping back to the door at the Villa in his car , he helped us carry all the shopping in and would not take a tip. He friended my husband on Facebook on his phone and said to message or phone him on messenger if we wanted anything delivering food drinks etc ( we did ask for a delivery of some wine and bread and he was there in 10 mins) He said if we wanted a taxi to take us right to the villa door to go to him and he would phone one for us and tell the driver where we needed to be as a lot of the taxis will only take you half way up the hill but Harry just seemed to tell them what gear to go up in and they drove right to the top, it was either 20 lira but well worth it, we did walk a few times. We had a fab holiday Kate was great as was the maintenance team. There isn't a grill and no pop up toaster but there was a hot plate.

WOW what a holiday, A+ all the way, I was a bit doubtful about a November break expecting a bit of what we left behind i.e. Rain Clouds and cold, instead we had 8 days of wall to wall sunshine with temperatures up in the 30°C+ every day. The Villa is beautiful and obviously designed with luxury and comfort in mind, inside two bedrooms are large and airy with comfortable beds and spacious bathrooms, the rest of the Villa is open plan with comfortable lounge area, spacious dinning area and a large kitchen with everything needed for those that like there food home cooked, ourselves we made good use of the BAR-B-Q (cooking meat and fish bought in Dalaman) on the rear patio using wood supplied, this backed up with regular use of the excellent restaurant recommended to us kept us well nourished. The Villa surround is a sight for sore eyes, from the rear (East facing) patio you have the 3rd bedroom, again with plenty of room and it’s own bathroom, I imagine this, for a family with grown children would give them an independent feel while being secure in a walled garden with locked gate. In front of this is the swimming pool, crystal clear water thanks to constant filtering and a beautiful Blue thanks to the tiling, around this is a great sun bathing area for those with the courage to risk sunburn, I stayed on the patio in the shade with a good book (thanks Kindle), there is also a pool table but it seemed too energetic for me. Further round is the South facing patio, catching the midday sun it’s a bit hot for me but it faces the garden with the fruit trees and I did enjoy picking the odd Pomegranate, it felt a bit like scrumping when I was a lad which added to my pleasure. Continuing round is the West facing patio and in the evenings we watched the sun set and birds (flycatchers) darting after flies, we had a bottle of Kilbeggan Whisky at hand and toasted their every success. For anyone interested if you wake early in the morning, I usually wake about 4am from habit, go out to the rear patio and look at the stars, there is little light pollution and the sky is brilliant with stars you feel you can almost reach up and touch. Enjoy your holiday, I did..
