Due to its high altitude and inland location, Cappadocia has warm and dry summers, with temperatures frequently reaching the early to mid 30s degrees Celsius. Winters can be cold and snowy, with temperatures often dropping below zero degrees Celsius. The region receives around 12 inches of rainfall, which mainly falls as snow in the winter months.
Visitors looking to spend their holidays in Cappadocia and Goreme National Park will first fly to Esenboga International Airport (ESB), close to Ankara. Turkish Airlines and Atlasjet operate flights from London Stansted (STN) to this airport. Visitors may then wish to hire a car and enjoy the scenic drive from the airport to Cappadocia, or alternatively take a connecting flight to the nearer Erkilet Airport (ASR).
