Make a holiday rental villa or accommodation in Tobago your home away from home

Tobago is one of very few holiday destinations in which you can genuinely and entirely relax and rejuvenate, with a truly laid back atmosphere and the archetypal Caribbean landscape which has caused so many people to fall in love with this exotic region. Tobago has refused to allow the concrete hotels and mass tourist facilities that would destroy the island, so Tobago holiday rental is mainly in the form of private villa rentals, holiday homes and delightful beach cottages.

Things to do on holiday in Tobago

The almost empty beaches are a huge attraction for those looking to take holiday accommodation in Tobago. Beach cottage rentals here mean that the dreams of sunbathers from around the world can be made into a reality, with the sun warming the azure seas and powdery sand long into the evenings. Some of the finest beaches (all of which are unspoilt and quiet) are Englishman’s Bay and Mount Irvine. Just off shore, the warm Caribbean waters are home to a massive range of tropical fish and mammals, meaning that the scuba diving and snorkelling in Tobago is hard to beat anywhere in the world. Manta rays, angel fish and millions of species which thrive on the coral reefs can be seen, and without having to worry about dangerous sharks.

The amount of wildlife which lives on the island has gained Tobago the nickname of the “Galapagos of the West Indies”. Boasting the oldest protected rainforest in the western hemisphere, Tobago villas or apartments make an idyllic retreat for nature lovers too. There are many great walks and cycle rides to spectacular view points and spots of magnificent natural beauty in Tobago, and there are many options for bike hire or guided horse rides. There are also two famous golf courses on offer from a Tobago holiday home.

The Trinidad and Tobago Carnival in February is one of the best times to take a villa or apartment in Tobago. Rum and calypso make the perfect accompaniment to the colourful costumes and large, lively crowds which descend on the island for the week.

Places to holiday in Tobago

Tobago’s capital, Scarborough is most notable for the striking Fort of King George, which stands proudly overlooking the harbour. There are also over 17 acres of beautiful botanical gardens which run alongside the fort.

Weather in Tobago

With a yearly average temperature of 30°C, and seas as warm as a bath, there is always a sensational reason to take holiday accommodation in Tobago, whether that is an apartment or villa for the wetter, yet slightly warmer period from June until September, or a beach cottage for the dry and slightly cooler (average 28°C) period from January until May.

Flights to Tobago

There are a number of weekly flights direct from the UK every week. British Airways and Virgin Atlantic run direct flights from London Gatwick (LGW) and Manchester (MAN) to Crown Point International Airport (TAB). You can be at the front door of your self catering Tobago apartment within 9 hours of leaving home.

Lovely house in wonderful location

5 of 5
We are a family of six (with 4 young people aged from late teens to mid-twenties), and Tamarind House provided a fantastic base for our two-week holiday. We all loved it from the moment we arrived- a beautiful airy house set just above the stunning little fishing village of Parletuvier. All the rooms are a good size, and there are numerous places to sit and read or watch the wildlife in or out of the shade throughout the day and evening. The kitchen is an excellent space to work in and very well stocked, and the 'outside kitchen', poolside, has a very good gas grill, so we had a great time cooking fish brought from the fishermen mid-afternoon. Why did we love it so much? Well, there are few more heavenly spots on Tobago, where the rain-forest dips down to the sea, where the local people are so welcoming and friendly, where we could snorkle before breakfast each day, and where the wildlife flowed in and out of the house- birds, bats, lizards....also, we are a diving family, and were able to easily reach key dive sites around Tobago, and we loved the local waterfall and rain-forest with abundant bird- and other wildlife. Sharon is an excellent housekeeper- the house was always clean and tidy after her visits and she was hugely helpful in introducing us and giving us directions- her eggs were delicious too! Hot tips: Shauvanne's fruit and veg stall 500m beyond Glasgow's Bar, and Vaness's little local diner, turn left towards Bloody Bay and immediately on the left, as well, of course as the fish from the jetty. We can't recommend the house highly enough if you love reefs and rain forests, tranquility and passing time with local people; try a house in the south-west of the island if you prefer nightlife or glitzy restaurants!

The views from this villa will blow your mind!

5 of 5
We stayed at Paradise Point Villa for two weeks at the end of June and we thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The villa has two studio apartments with very comfortable beds and spacious en-suite bathrooms. The two apartments are linked by the kitchen. Each apartment has its own terrace with amazing views as well as direct access to a very large terrace/ deck on top of the villa where you will find sun loungers, sofas and chairs and you will feel like you are the "king of the world" :-). The bedrooms are breezy (in particular in the hillside apartment) and we did not at any point need to use the AC. The villa is easily accessible from the main road (no noise from the traffic as the vegetation is muffling it) and has ample parking space. Within 5, 10 and 15 minutes drive from the villa there are beautiful beaches with excellent snorkeling. Alice the owner and Porridge the administrator have been very helpful and quick in solving minor issues and answering our questions. In the last 10 years, we have been traveling around the Caribbean islands and stayed in this sort of accommodation (we hate hotels) and for us this villa has a well-deserved place in the top of our favorite ones.
