Travellers will enjoy beautiful Krabi.

The province of Krabi is located on the western coast of mainland Thailand. The area's name is derived from the Thai word for 'sword,' following an old Thai legend that an ancient sword was unearthed in the main town of the same name. With a population of just under 500,000, Krabi is a bustling state, covered mostly in palm oil and rubber plantations.

Things to do

Ko Lanta Marine National Park:

The Ko Lanta Marine National Park is a collection of hiking trails and scenic lookout points encased in a protected park reserve area. The park spans across 15 islands in the Andaman Sea, and during the low season visitors can hike out to the long-tail reeds. Camping is also allowed on several islands.

Hammock House:

Visitors will enjoy the Hammock House, the largest collection of quality hammocks in all of Thailand. Various tribes are represented in the exhibit, and the house has copies of their Lanta Biker Map. The map details various lookout points and sites of interest for those renting scooters on the island.

Phi Phi Viewpoint:

Travellers will enjoy the view from Phi Phi. The hike to the viewpoint may taxing for some and includes steep steps and narrow pathways. From the viewpoint, a quarter of a mile up, travellers can see the vistas of the nearby marine park. Follow the signs for Ao Lo Dalam from the main village.

Time for Lime:

Time for Lime is an ideal dinner spot for travellers. This hip establishment offers five-course traditional Thai dinners daily starting at 1800B. Cooking courses are also available, with both basic skills classes and advanced Thai cooking courses with a twist. A modern concrete kitchen completes the stylish atmosphere.

Krabi Eco Cycle:

Travellers will enjoy a day tour with Krabi Eco Cycle. The tour, just shy of 10 miles, travels through oil and rubber plantations, hot springs, small villages, and ends with a swim in the 'Emerald Pool.' Lunch is included on the full day tour. Half-tours are also available for visitors.

Liquid Lense:

Liquid Lense is a diving photography school in Krabi province. The school offers one-day/two-dive and six-day/nine-dive seminars. A videography tutorial class and 'Tips and Tricks' course are also available. The latter is extremely popular with visitors who already have underwater photography experience.

Weather in Krabi

Krabi lies on the western side of Thailand. Monsoons cover the island from October to January, and therefore travel is recommended from February through to early summer. During monsoon season, flooding can become dangerous for those unaccustomed to the heavy rains. During the dry and cool season – in the earliest part of the calendar year – temperatures range from 18-32°C.

Travel to Krabi

Visitors can fly into Krabi Airport (KBV) from a variety of mainland locations. The airport is located on Highway 4, which loops around the majority of mainland Thailand. The nearby island of Phuket, perfect for shorter day trips, is accessible on Highway 4 as well, or by ferry from the town of Krabi.

Beautiful villa, shame about the beach

4 of 5
Beautiful clean villa with everything we needed. Modern Western design, fully kitted out. Very comfortable. The manager, Nick, was very helpful and easy to get hold of. The outdoor area was perfect, plenty of seating and the private pool was great. It wasn't clear where to put rubbish in the complex, so we did have a bit of a pile. I understand that we went while the weather was a bit hit and miss, but for a private luxury complex the beach took ages to be cleaned, and when it was it was all just pushed into a corner. Considering that when you rent a budget bungalow they spend hours from early morning until the beach is spotless each day this was quite disappointing.

Comfortable & beautiful accommodation in lovely setting

5 of 5
This 2 bedroom villa was clean, spacious, well-equipped, as in the description. In fact there was more than we expected because the second bedroom has its own toilet/basin/shower, which was a bonus. Also, the two bedrooms are at opposite sides of the house, making it suitable for say two couples to share whilst retaining relative privacy. There is a large kitchen dining area in the middle of the house and a large living room at the front. For the sitting area on the front decking, a fan & mosquito coils to burn when needed were provided. These worked very effectively and hence made it lovely spot to sit out in the evening, overlooking the nicely kept gardens and pool, tastefully lit with coloured lights. The swimming pool was a real bonus and although quite small, was actually plenty big enough for all 3 of us to swim at once. WiFi & aircon were absolutely brilliant, I have to say! We’ve stayed in many places round the world and these two things often don’t work as well as advertised. Here however – fantastic! The location of the villa is a little remote and it is definitely too far to walk to / from Ao Nang, but Chris & Bee offer a lift into town (or to the local beach) once a day and a Tuk Tuk is 300 Baht to get back again. Alternatively, scooter hire is cheap and readily available, which was the option we chose. Considering this, we thought the location was actually great. There is a very small shop about 300m away that sold eggs, tins of tuna, crisps, snacks, soft drinks etc. and several larger food shops within only a short drive. Although, Chris & Bee made sure we had all the basic provisions that we might need for the first day or so, so no need to shop immediately. Chris & Bee were excellent and attentive hosts and were always available and willing to help with whatever we needed.
