Val-d’Illiez is the name for both a valley in the Canton of Valais and a village within the valley. Separating the northern foothills of the Chablais Alps from the Dents du Midi Mountains, the village of Val d’Illiez is small and peaceful, and ideal for those seeking a relaxing break. With the commune also including the resort towns of Les Crosets and Champoussin, there are plenty of activities on offer throughout the year, including Val d’Illiez’ renowned thermal baths, and of course plenty of top-quality skiing.

Things to do in Val-d’Illiez, Switzerland

Val-d’Illiez is something of a picture-postcard mountain village, and an ideal destination for those that would prefer to stay in good quality self-catering accommodation in a traditional alpine village, rather than a busy purpose-built tourist resort. Despite this, Val-d’Illiez still offers quick and easy access to the main ski resorts of Portes du Soleil, with runs available for all ages and levels of ability.

Cafes, restaurants, shops and pubs can all be found in the village centre, and the most popular attraction in the village is the thermal baths. Relaxing in their warm waters against a spectacular mountain backdrop is extremely relaxing and ideal for soothing aching muscles after a long day on the slopes. The baths are open all year round, and particularly popular during the coldest days of winter.

Those that visit when there is no snow on the ground will be presented with a wide range of hiking, climbing and mountain biking options, including a trip around the daunting Via Ferrata for those brave enough to take up the challenge. Summer is also the time of several events and festivals in Val-d’Illiez, including the yearly fete, which is a great place to meet the locals and sample some traditional Swiss dishes.

Home from home stunning apartment with amazing views!

An absolutely wonderful place to spend our summer holiday. Les Crosets is a beautiful Swiss village nestled in a meadow at the top of the mountain (1700m). It is like stepping off the 'Wheel' - quiet, other than the sound of bells coming from the grazing cows - wonderful. There is so much to do; hiking, lift hopping, cycling, swimming, visiting lakes. The apartment itself has everything to make you feel at home and to ensure your stay is very comfortable. The owners have thought of everything - even British TV :) The balcony is fantastic, huge and you get the sun all day if you want it or plenty of shade from the eaves above. We will definitely return.

Cannot be faulted. 35 years skiing and this is one of the best apartments I've stayed in. The superb location, the spacious, light and airy apartment with gorgeous fixtures and fittings. Just fantastic and already booked for next year.
